We don't dress up at the school where I work, no trick-or-treaters come to my condo, and Nate is working until 10pm tonight. So, Saturday was my only day to dress up and celebrate Halloween I guess! Boo, I'm sad it's over!

Volunteering last night was super fun, I got put on "Ugly Christmas Sweater" duty, tagging and hanging them for the upcoming "Merry Thriftmas" season. It was awesome!

Also, it's my first time wearing tights since like April... I forgot how much wearing dark tights sucks for taking photos due to the stair balusters... I have a wonky leg in like every photo! Grr.

So prepare yourself internet, I wear a lot of black/navy/brown tights in the winter so I'm gonna have perpetual 4x4/cylinder/partial robot leg.

The plaid pants

It's time for the annual to biannual wearing of the crazy plaid pants...

Cardigan - Bloomingdale's (inherited from aunt)
T-shirt - Target
Pants - thrifted vintage Bleyle for Hooper
Shoes - Seychelles

Last night Nate and I volunteered at Cycles for Change again. Last time we were stripping unusable bike frames for useable parts, but last night we got to repair a whole bike! It was just a little girls bike, but we replaced both the tubes and tires, fixed the non-functioning brakes and replaced the brake cables and housing (working on brakes is my favorite thing to do!), replaced the rusted-out chain, steel-wooled all the rust off the crank, put pedals on, and generally oiled everything up so it was all moving and functioning again. We took it from a rusted piece of junk that was donated and didn't work, to something that will make a little girl very happy in under two hours! It was really fulfilling!

Tonight I'm volunteering at an Arc's Value Village, helping to unpack and label things for their "Merry Thriftmas" season. I don't know what is up with me and volunteering so much lately. I like to volunteer and all, but with four jobs, I usually don't have time. Lately things have just been working out though, and I love it! Maybe because these are two places I really believe in and volunteering there is actually fun!

Rock 'n Bowl

10-29-12 Rock 'n Bowl
Blouse - thrifted aileen
Sweater - Gap
Jeans - Target
Shoes - Nordstrom

I found these shoes in the little boys section of a Nordstrom's Rack 13 years ago. They remind me of bowling shoes (and I matched my lipstick to them today!)

I was thrilled so many of you knew what my costume was! Unfortunately the party I went to on Saturday was mostly dudes, so a lot of them had never seen the movie. We stopped at two bars on our walk home from the party though, and quite a few random girls there knew what I was. I absolutely love that movie!

On Sunday, we grilled burgers for lunch one last time before putting the grill away for winter. Then we went to see the new Batman movie now that it's at the cheap theater (I hate going to the movies but I love an excuse to eat candy and popcorn!) then made zucchini boats for dinner and watched the World Series!

Phyllis Nefler costume

Here you go, Hallowen 2012, I'm Phyllis Nefler from Troop Beverly Hills!
100_1644
Hat - vintage
Cape - vintage via PetticoatsPlus
Skirt - thrifted Banana Republic
Purse - thrifted, girl scout patches added by me
Boots - Diba

This was a super easy costume to make, all I had to buy was a cape and I just added green ribbon to it. I glued some girl scout patches to a cheap thrifted purse, and that's it! I wasn't recreating a specific outfit from the movie, just a general Phyllis Nefler look.

Some previous Halloween costumes...
2011, I was Sally from the Nightmare before Christmas:

2010, I was a reverse mermaid. Fish on top, lady on the bottom. Not as sexy, but far more practical:

2009, I was Maude Lebowski from The Big Lebowski, in the hallucination scene:

2008, I was Frida Kahlo:

2007, I was the bee girl from Blind Melon's No Rain video:
Geisha, Operation Man, Blind Melon Bee Girl

I also "resurrected" the costume for the 2010 Zombie Pub Crawl, so I was a "Zom-Bee" girl then too:
Dancing, eating brains

2006, I was a pregnant high school cheerleader:

Before that, all of my photos are "real" photos not digital so I'll have to scan them next time I'm at my mom and dad's house. There's a few crazy ones!

Homecoming

I feel like I belong at a Homecoming football game in this sweater:
10-26-12 Homecoming
Sweater - thrifted vintage Dehen
Necklace - Target
T-shirt - Target
Jeans - Gap
Shoes - Plenty by Tracy Reese

The shoes from a previous wearing:
Plenty by Tracy Reese loafer heels

I've had this sweater for like 2 years and I'm always torn on whether or not to add a vintage letter to it. It is an old high school letterman's sweater, it just doesn't have a letter. Sometimes I think it would be awesome to find a vintage white "C" (for Christine, duh) and add it but then I never wind up doing it because I feel like maybe it would become too costumey then? I don't know. What do you think? To C or not to C? (Sorry. That was bad. I like bad puns.)

Have a faaaaaaaaaaaabulous Halloween weekend, internet! I'll show you my costume sooooon!

Cool people wear stripes

Today...
10-25-12 Ooooooops
Necklace - my mom got it for me at a garage sale
Sweater - J.Crew outlet
Skirt - thrifted vintage
Boots - Rockport

Last night I went and babysat Henrik for a couple hours. He was very good but full of energy! This was right after we put on jammies after a bath (Yeah, he's got a little bruise on his left cheek. He got into a fight with a toy truck a few days ago. The truck won.)
Henrik, PJ time

Then he wanted to show me his new trick and favorite thing to do... flush the toilet. Soooo, the bathroom door is pretty much closed all the time.
Henrik flushing the toilet.Henrik wants to show you his favorite thing...
It's so fun watching him growing and learning. He's bound and determined to figure out the child locks on the cabinets, pull everything off any shelf he can reach, and to immediately go after all remotes, cell phones, and cameras. Anything he shouldn't have is EXACTLY what he wants. It's pretty cute for now but it's gonna mean trouble later!

Fur, pumpkins, and bikes

10-24-12 Fur and flowers
Collar - thrifted vintage
Dress - thriftd vintage (no tags previous remix tribute here)
Shoes - Franco Sarto

Last night I got a lot of random stuffff done. Nate works really late on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for now so I use those nights to catch up on a bunch of projects. I made a million phone calls for a secret photobooth related project. Then I carved a pumpkin for a pumpkin carving contest...
Marilyn Monroe pumpkin
I figured everyone would be doing skeletons and Frankensteins and stuff so I went with what I think is the most iconic Halloween costume of all time - Marilyn Monroe. You're gonna see a Marilyn in a white dress every. single. year. I thought doing it Andy Warhol style would be easy. Boy was I wrong. I put different colored glow sticks inside for each photo to give it a bit of the bright pop-art feel. And roasted the pumpkin seeds, which are awesome!

I also finished up this custom order of bikes for a nursery:
FutureLint bikes - pink
I think this is such a good idea! If you're having a girl, you're gonna get a lot of pink stuff and it's not all going to be in the same color family. So this way, you've got some art that ties all the pinks together! Plus I love that she has a bike theme for a girl's nursery - yay!

I also got a bunch of vintage orders packed up and ready to ship. Boy, people sure do love waiting til the last minute for their Halloween costumes! I got a few orders yesterday pleading me to ship them ASAP because they need them for this weekend. Which is fine, I go to the post office at least twice a week anyway and it's good to know when someone needs it by a certain date but holy procrastination! I've been working on my costume for like a month (thought I am aware that is because I'm a Halloween weirdo!)

Grellow (grey + yellow!)

Last night Nate and I (well, mostly Nate) installed a new pop-up drain in my bathroom sink. The one that was in there was so old that the metal had corroded all the way through and started leaking underneath my sink. Now it works! It is awesome! And it only took us one trip to Home Depot and two viewings of a "This Old House" clip to do it! Then we made fake Chipotle burritos for dinner because on Sunday I made a ton of Barbacoa Beef in the crock pot and they were delicious so we ate them two days in a row! Then we watched The Walking Dead and the final Presidential debate.

Today...

When the party was over we rushed home and changed because my friends Tim and Thom were having a Tweed Ride! We just biked around the city, stopping at pubs for beers. It was super fun!

Henrik

WARNING! Gratuitous baby nephew photo post. No outfit posts today, just HENRIK! Turn back now if you're one of those weird anti-baby photo peeps.

Ok, ok, I know I said I'd be gone til Monday but it's my nephew Henrik's birthday today! One year ago today, I sat in the waiting room of the hospital for oh, 13 hours or so waiting for Henrik and sewing the vintage wolf patch on the back of this cardigan so I didn't freak out.

Fresh outta the womb... looking like the Whos down in Whoville.

I'm excited for his party on Saturday! The theme is "It's the Great First Birthday, Charlie Brown!" Great Pumpkin themed, cute!
