The bloggiest blogger

I feel like if I had to stereotype bloggers and come up with one winter outfit... this would be it. Big grandpa cardigan, floral dress (which should be courtesy of ModCloth if we're stereotyping, but it's not), tights, oxfords. I'm missing the milkmaid braids with thick bangs, fake geek glasses and red lipstick, but still!
Cardigan - thrifted Kentfield
Dress - thrifted Petite Sophisticate
Tights - 2 layers, one is DKNY, one is Target
Shoes - thrifted Joan Helpern Signature Collection

I stayed home sick yesterday because I had a bad cold for all of Thanksgiving break. I went to Thanksgiving dinner at my friend Kai and Sarah's house along with about eight other friends. Though I wasn't feeling the best I also went out Friday night for dinner followed by dancing at a gay bar for my friend Matt's birthday. I stayed in bed like all day Saturday and Sunday watching TV on my computer and napping, which was awesome in it's own way, don't get me wrong! But I seriously wrenched my neck some time during a NyQuil nap and so yesterday I just stayed home. I still feel like my head has a few pounds of crap in it and my ears are super plugged but I will persevere!

The best worst day ever

Today I am sick (just a cold), then I fell down on the ice while taking out my garbage, which caused my coffee tumbler to pop open and all the stuff in my bag to fall out, which apparently loosened the cap on my aluminum water bottle enough for it to leak all over my bag during my bus ride to work... yet I'm still in a fabulous mood, believe it or not!
Lace top - thrifted Target (sample)
Sweater - GAP
Band medals - antique store
Boy scout pin - thrifted
Jeans - GAP
Boots - Seychelles
The pins:
Can you tell I finally spent my Groupon to GAP on Friday? Which is why I'm wearing two new things! I can't even remember the last time I bought new clothing (with the exception of shoes) from a real store instead of a thrift store... it was so odd. So many sizes of the same thing, amazing!

Spray paint

I thrifted this dress and it was missing the tags, so I threw it in the wash on cold to see what happened... well the white collar and white buttons came out purple from all the black dye that came out in the wash! Hmm, guess that missing tag said 'dry clean only.' So I used a bleach pen to lighten it but realized it was never gonna look right so I sprayed it with Simply Spray! I wanted it to be a kind of uneven, spray painted effect and I think it turned out great!
 Blazer - thrifted, little boys
Dress - thrifted, customized by me
Tights - Target
Shoes - Unlisted by Kenneth Cole, inherited from sister

Collar and shoes:

Yay! I only have to work tomorrow then I have the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving! I'm staying in Minneapolis this year and doing Thanksgiving dinner with a bunch of friends so I'm excited I don't have to deal with traveling. Since I finally have internet at my house (I didn't for the last two months)... I'll finally update the etsy! I'm planning to spend Wednesday photographing things and then listing a bunch on Friday or Saturday! I have so much great stuff that's just been sitting around waiting! Hooray!

P.S. With all this Thanksgiving talk, one thing I'm thankful for? Miu Miu bringing back this shape of shoe. These belonged to my sister in like 1994? Suddenly relevant again.

Patches?! I don't need no stinking patches!

I found this vintage girl scout's uniform at Arc's Value Village before Halloween. I've worn it once before but it was on a weekend, so I never got a picture of it. It's pretty short so for work I wore jeans under it today!
T-shirt - Target
Dress - thrifted vintage Girl Scout uniform
Jeans - Earnest Sewn
Shoes - from a Modcloth gift certificate I won

I don't talk too much about work here but I decided to put something on here today because it makes me laugh every day. This is Sharkington, who was colored by a six year old for me:
Sharkington lives on the uniform cupboard in my office and lectures the elementary students at my school who somehow "forget" that they wear uniforms to school and come in jeans. Now when kids come in my office out of uniform I just point at the cupboard and say "Go let Sharkington yell at you for a while." Yesterday an eight year old boy replied, "I heard you were weird." Totally made my day.

Button pusher

 Glasses - Prada
Necklace - vintage from Norway, from my grandma
Shirt - thrifted Target (sample)
Belt - thrifted, buttons added by me
Skirt - thrifted
Socks - Target
Shoes - Sam & Libby (inherited from sister)

This necklace does not really match but I don't care... I felt like wearing it. Because it is glorious.

The belt which took so much of my time and blood, that I really ought to wear it more...
The so ridiculously easy, you shouldn't need instructions but here they are anyway DIY is here.

I'm going to add in one more "I Love the Ulysses Book Club!" (that's the official name of our book club) because we picked Infinite Jest for our January book... can I get a hells yes?! Oh no, we are not one of those fluffy little book clubs that exist mostly to drink wine... we are throwing down an 1100 page behemoth. Yay!

Schell's Dark

Stayed up too late drinking Schell's Dark for my friend Mike's birthday last night... while scrambling to put together an outfit today, I realized I kinda dressed to match the beer. Dark beer, white foam outfit...
Cardigan - thrifted Lands End
Necklace - some shop in Korea
Dress - thrifted Isaac Mizrahi for Target (sample)
Tights - Target?
Shoes - Seychelles

Tonight is book club; we read Remainder by Tom McCarthy. Which was very strange and pretty good but I was disappointed by the ending. But somehow I always like the books more after book club,  once we've argued and dissected for a few hours, so I may change my mind! Our book for next month is The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera. I LOVE book club night, and can't believe we've been doing it every month for over a year already! Plus, I'm gonna make a Creamy Pumpkin Pie for Mike's birthday... it is SO easy and delicious and not that bad for you considering it's a dessert!

Psst... if my hands weren't jammed in my pockets you would see... MY NEW OLD RING!
I found this Wisconsin shield ring for $1 at a flea market with my mom this summer. I loved it because it reminds me of the rings my grandma used to buy me at the county fair every year! The only problem is it turned my finger black/green and was really itchy when I wore it! So I took it to a jeweler and now it's on a sterling silver band! The one on my index finger is also sterling silver. It's a perfect square and I made it in high school in art class!

Ack! Le Kodak!

I lost/misplaced my camera cord... so I figure, no biggie, I'll just go buy another! I did! And it didn't fit! So I returned it and bought another one! It didn't fit either! So I stopped at an actual camera store and they told me that since it is a Kodak camera, they don't use the standard USB cords. They only use Kodak cords. Um, a big "f you" to Kodak on that one! So I bought a nifty little thumb drive reader for my memory card to stick it to them! Boo on you Kodak. Whatever, that is the reason I've been missing so far this week! But, on the bright side, that means you get two outfits today! Both of which are a bit modern-seventies!

Yesterday:
Glasses - Prada
Oxford - thrifted vintage
Sweater - Bitten by SJP
Brooches - thrifted (The gold one that is all alone is from a garage sale when I was seven. It cost a dime. Buying second-hand and frugal since birth!)
Skirt - thrifted Express
Socks - Target
Shoes - thrifted
Brooches:

Today: 100% thrifted!
Necklace - thrifted
Blazer - thrifted vintage (and it's made of camel hair! Which is weird! And feels... hairy!)
Blouse - thrifted Kenneth Cole
Jeans - thrifted Banana Republic
Shoes - thrifted Joan Helpern Signature (Of Joan & David! They were $3 and were handmade in Italy!)

Necklace and shoes (lets ignore my super awesome athletic socks... they were never gonna be seen under the pants and then I realized I've never taken a photo of these shoes before, so I took one in the bathroom at work because I am a Classy Bitch.)

Bye kiddos!

P.S. Also, on Sunday, I got stuck at the Milwaukee airport for like nine hours flying standby. And since I am super-awesome and smart, I left my phone at my parents house. Stand-by. No phone. Geez-Louise! The good news is, I survived thanks to my wits (and the glory that is Facebook so I could look up my little bros # to get in touch with my mom and cry to her that I was stuck at the airport. Boos.)

Hello, blogosphere!

Since I am one of five bloggers featured on The Upside of Wonder today, I though I should do a little intro! And for you long time readers, maybe you'll learn something new!

I would say I have a pretty eclectic style, I like to change things up every day and try out new things! I love thrifting and vintage,  and wouldn't be caught dead in a Forever 21 or Urban Outfitters. I'm 29, live in Minneapolis, and work in the nurse's office of a K-12 public arts school! I screenprint t-shirts and sell vintage clothing here. I also work with a special needs boy every Thursday! I've been dating my boyfriend Ryan for over three years (and we were friends for a few years before that). I love baseball (both watching and playing), sailing, crafting, running, cooking, and sewing!

Here's some of my favorite outfits that I have worn this year, to give you an idea of my ever-changing style!

Thanks for visiting and let me know if you have any more questions and I'll answer them!
