The big top

9-28-12 Big top
Necklace - thrifted
Cardigan - thrifted vintage (no brand, just a big tag that says 100% acrylic)
Dress - Target
Sandals - Jessica Simpson

Ahh, the siren song of the Target 75% off clearance rack. Who can resist it? Anyway, I found this dress about a month ago for $6. It's a terrible mullet of a dress. Casual cut, casual circus-tent-like fabric, but then the back is crazy. The top is made of twisted lace and there's a big hole in the back right where your bra band is so you can't wear one. Like this (photo from Target.com):

I don't understand. But I bought it anyway, figuring 80% of the year is cardigan weather in MN so the back will never be seen. Speaking of cardigan weather, it's been so hard to dress lately! It's usually only 40 degrees in the morning when I bike to work but it's supposed to be 80 degrees by this afternoon. Today I just threw on a second cardigan, some gloves, and some leggings (and helmet, duh) and it was cold, but not too bad. Besides, it's worth it to see this on my way home every day:

Beats the heck out of staring at the back of someone's bumper (not that I drive to work ever - I take the bus... which also has awesome views - of crazy people. Seriously, the bus is the best people watching ever!)

M.I.C.K.E.Y.

I'm a sucker for a vintage Mickey Mouse tee. I found this one while thrifting last week and although it was a saaaaaaaad shade of yellow, and Nate gave me a rather disgusted look when he saw it, I bought it anyway for $3. Since it's a ringer tee with navy trim, bleaching was out. But after about 24 hours in a bucket of OxiClean - it came out nice and white! I can't tell you how many vintage things this method has saved. I'm not much for promoting products, but it seriously gets out like 40 year old stains for me all the time! Woo! I'm a fan! Stain removal - it's exciting, folks!

Miss Fashionality

The tag on this vintage blouse says "Miss Fashionality"... is that a combo of "fashion" and "personality?" I guess so, which is ridiculous. Regardless, it's an adorable (yes, adorable, as in a small child should be wearing it, not me) shirt.

I'm excited beause it's Food Truck Wednesday! My friend Megan (she just moved back to MPLS after finishing her PhD in psychology in San Fransisco!) works across the street from me! So every Wednesday we meet up for lunch and hit up a food truck (well, until it gets cold - then we'll hit up the skyways!) It's super fun to have a lady date and get to try new foods! She has a big window in her office that faces the street and I find it endlessly entertaining to nonchalantly walk backwards by her window occasionally. I'm sooooo mature!

Now tilt your head at an unnatural angle

It's school picture day at work! I'd only been here about 15 minutes before I had a student come in with red, Devil-style contacts and ask me to put them in his eyes for him... Um, it's one thing if you wanna prank your mom or whoever by having red eyes in the photo but I'm not helping you do it (nor am I touching anyone's eyeballs but my own.) Le sigh. 8th grade boys, always up to something. (And for the record, I hope he does it! I'm a big fan of harmless shenanigans - besides, there's always picture re-take day for him to take a nice one for his mom!)

Nate and I went to a few thrift stores on Saturday before I had to work. It's Halloween season so all the good vintage and weird things are out! I found a bunch of great stuff. Nate has a cold so we spent all of Sunday watching football in our pajamas (awesome). Hopefully I don't catch it (working in the nurse's office of a school, I have a pretty kick-ass immune system... however this time of year, my allergies are so bad that I can get sick just because I'm so worn down already.)

Schoolhouse Rock

There is something about this cardigan that always reminds me of Schoolhouse Rock... maybe it's just because it has a similiar '70s red and brown and gold color scheme. Do kids still watch that in school? We did in middle school and I remember thinking it was so corny and awesome at the same time. I still know a bunch of the songs. My favorite is "Three is a magic number." Because it is!

I have no idea how that tangent about Schoolhouse Rock happened, but now I'm hoping it's a slow day here in the health office so I can watch a few on my computer! Have a fabulous weekend internet! Bet you can't guess what I'm doing!!! Ok, fine. You're right. You can. I'm photo boothing.

You're a hero!

Ugh, this post is going to be much later than usual... this morning I did take a few outfit photos, but then I forgot my camera at home. I also made coffee and forgot it at home. Boo, what a crappy start to the day! Guess I should just get up like 5 minutes earlier so I don't have to rush in the morning (but it's hard to get out of bed - it's so coooooold. I refuse to close my balcony door. The two are clearly unrelated problems.)

The awesome back:

Let's throw in a tribute to this skirt, shall we? I found it at the Goodwill Outlet (where you pay by the pound) over four years ago. In fact here's the post where I found it. It cost me around $1-$1.50. It's a thick knit, so it gets a good three seasons of wear every year.

Past wearings of the skirt, click on the photo to go to my flickr page if you want the oufit details...

P.S. I find it necessary to point out the first photo on the right side is from "80s Day" during my school's Spirit Week. I did not, in fact, rock that outfit on the realz.

Honestly, I thought there would be more outfits with the skirt but I realized I also have three other mustard skirts. So there would be a looooooot more outfits featuring this skirt if I didn't own these alternatives... just showing one example of each skirt, we don't need to get toooooo carried away here.

Fakin' it and Madras

What did I do last night? Oh, I was just sitting in a photo booth with a total stranger while someone filmed us pretending to be BFFs and making wacky faces. Last night I had to be a fake wedding guest for a video being shot about the photo booth company I work for. The bride and groom were an actual recently married couple and a bunch of their friends were there too but I was just an extra guest I guess... my life is weird sometimes. Still, I made $75 for one hour of "work" along with some dinner in the form of beer and Afghani pizza. Woop! I wore the exact outfit I wore to my friend Mel's wedding in August. We were supposed to dress for a summer wedding and it's my favorite fancy dress (in case you couldn't tell by how many times I've worn it in less than two years.)

Today... I'm wearing my awesome madras jacket which is made by Gant too (the oxford I was wearing yesterday was a GANT.) I'm a big fan of their preppy style, but it's hard to find vintage Gant stuff that's women's (or girl's!) I especially love this '60s girls jacket, which has a tag that says "Hand Woven Madras - loomed in India." Neato!

Damn everything but the circus

Saturday I went to the MN blogger meet-up and then to work a wedding for the photo booth. I didn't want to have to change in between, so I just wore this dress to both:

I brought a jacket for later Saturday evening, as the wedding was outdoors, under a tent. It was depression-era circus themed, and AWESOME.

Sunday I went out for breakfast with my sister and my nephew Henrik. Then I watched football all day, followed by dinner with my friend Megan. It was yet another hectic weekend! I can't wait for wedding season to be over!

Today...

Shirt - thrifted vintage aileen
Belt - thrifted
Jeans - Old Navy
Sandals - thrifted Candies

Confession, I want to wear this shirt every single day. I just love it (and the fact that it came with this skirt for a total of $6)... I won't ever wear them together though, I swear. That is just tooooooo many polka-dots for one lady.

Pinky-dink

Last night Nate and I watched the Packers vs. Bears game, which I was more excited about than him (I grew up in Chicago then moved to Wisconsin so it's a rivalry that will alway thrill my heart.) Though I would have preferred the Bears to win, it was still fun to watch.

It's quickly turning to fall here, the mornings are getting darker, the evenings are coming sooner and I've noticed a few early leaves changing...
quickly turning to fall on my bike ride home

Note the train on the right side. I love when trains go by on my bike ride home, so long as I don't get stuck waiting to cross the tracks. And the train guys always wave, which is cute!
