Pumpkin skirts and tiger dresses

Tuesday:
Glasses - thrifted for $0.80 - they are original American Optical horn rimmed glasses! I finally got around to getting new lenses put in them. You can also see them in the last post when I am at the Twins game. My nerd factor has been increased a thousand fold and I couldn't be happier!
Jacket - thrifted, vintage
T-shirt - Target
Skirt - DKNY
Shoes - Ditto by Van Eli
I wanted to wear this little vintage jacket once to see if I want to sell it... I have a hard time getting rid of things (clearly)... while I don't think I'll wear it often, it is a fun piece. However the way to get your dream wardrobe is to slowly accumulate things you LOVE. I like this. A lot. But do I LOVE it??? I don't think so, but for now I'm hanging on to it, I feel like I'll love it come spring??

Wednesday:
 Blazer - thrifted
Belt - thrifted
Dress - thrifted pajamas (Toast and Jammies brand -score!)
Shoes - Charles David

I normally do not wear the exact same outfit twice, but well, I don't think there is any other way to rock this tiger-headed tiger-print pajama shirt ... I think the shrunken blazer, black belt, and black shoes are the only way to go... puts it in the "vaguely wearable" vs "clearly drunk" style of dressing.

Plus I am le "half sick" right now and couldn't be bothered to be creative this morning, I just wanted to stay in bed as long as possible. Having to breathe out of my mouth all night since I am so stuffy results in a sore throat which makes me grouchy... thankyouverymuchforallthesnottyhugslastweekchildren. Boo on germs.

Black and white and redhead

Friday:
 Shirt - JC Penny clearance
Skirt - thrifted, screenprinted by me years ago
Shoes - Michael Kors

Hmm, I should have taken a close-up of the shoes - the soles and heels are so fun! But P.S. to Michael Kors, I know that Project Runway was filmed in LA this season, but I miss you! Your catty comments were my favorite part of the show. Now I just do impressions of you for my gay boyfriends during the judgings, trying to think of what you would say... which is fine and funny, but seriously, COME BACK!

I changed Friday night, since we had awesome tickets to watch the Twins beat the Tigers! Wahoo!

Monday... sometimes I like to pretend like I'm a matador...

 Vest - thrifted
Polo - Target
Shorts - thrifted The Limited
Wedges - Charles David

a modest and proper outfit

Was going to title this something about a schoolgirl, but then realized that would probably attract an exorbitant amount of pervs... But there is something about this outfit that is school-girlish which bothers me slightly because one of the grossest things in the world is grown women dressing up like sexy schoolgirls... it's just really disturbing, even on Halloween.

Ruffled shirt - thrifted
Skirt - Elevensies, secondhand shop in Boston (every pleat is lined in a different fabric!)
Shoes - Isaac Mizrahi for Target, years ago

Oooh and speaking of Halloween, I'm starting some brainstorming on what to be... I don't want to wear any sort of body/face paint and don't like wigs, so redheaded characters are hard to come by... my ideal costume would be to make my #1 gay boyfriend Chris be Patsy Stone from AbFab and I would be Edina Monsoon:

It's perfect, he's gay, blond, and smokes! Then we can just run around drinking water out of vodka bottles and it's perfect!

If he won't do it I'm thinking Peg Bundy:

Or Maude Lebowski from the hallucination scene:

We'll see... Halloween is such a big deal to me, I really need to think it out...

food as fashion

Remember those old cartoons that used to show in between movies at the drive-in? Where it was a food circus and the hot dog bun was training the hot dog to do tricks, like back flips? No? Bueller?
I'm always sad when I go to the drive-in (which is surprisingly often, a few times a summer) and there are no food cartoons encouraging me to go to the concession stand (so I don't!)

Anyway, I feel like an old timey hot dog today...
 Cardigan - Target
White tank - Nordstrom?
Grey tank - little boys Fruit of the Loom
Skirt - thrifted, shortened and vintage doilies added by me
Shoes - thrifted Nine West

I'd rather be riding my bike

It's been in the 80s for days... which is kinda weird for Minnesota. But I'll take it! School has been great so far - I spend most of the day entering vaccination records but try to spend an hour every afternoon decorating our room... they made EVERYONE in the school take EVERYTHING down because they were going to switch some rooms around. Um... you're not going to change where the health office is. We need the big bathroom and med room... so I was annoyed to do it but now I'm excited because we get to start from scratch!

Monday, I decided to dress like a sunflower:
Cardigan - thrifted
Dress - I Heart Ronson
Shoes - Dezario
Necklaces - one is from Target, two are thrifted

Today:
Vest - thrifted in the little boys section (since little boys don't have boobs I can't get it closed at the top so I strung a necklace through the button hole and secured it at the top and bottom with safety pins on the inside...)
Necklace - Claire's (it's from when I was Little Orphan Annie for Halloween a few years ago)
Tank - Target
Skirt - thrifted
Shoes - Chinese Laundry

I'm thinking about doing a more permanent fix with the vest... I'll probably replace the buttons and sew matching ones into the opposite buttonholes, then loop chains from one side to the other... we'll see. It's hard to find ways to make something that doesn't fit, fit. This is how I started selling stuff on etsy... too many cute things that weren't meant for girls with boobs...

P.S. Went to see Regina Spektor (for the 3rd time!) on Friday (my birthday present from Brittany) - SO fun! SO SO good!

that "someone" sure is stylish

Here's a bunch of outfits and not much else... someone might have stayed up too late last night picking her fantasy football team with the boys and someones brain might not be working too well today. Hmmm...

T-shirt - Thrifted Target SAMPLE
Skirt - Isaac Mizrahi for Target
Shoes - Dezario

 Scarf - thrifted
Tank - little boys Fruit of the Loom
Cardigan - had it since 8th grade... I wanna say it's from Pacific Sunwear??
Necklace - Claire's (it's from when I was Little Orphan Annie for Halloween one year)
Skirt - thrifted
Shoes - thrifted Candies

I'm right on top of that, Rose!

First day of school! So many immunization records to update! Hundreds of health history forms to hunt down and collect! Piles and piles of files! Thus the Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead reference... things just keep coming in and I'm all "I'm right on top of that, Rose!" But really I'm drowning inside trying to keep track of what goes where and what I already did and why oh why did they rearrange my desk and office so I don't know where anything is and and and... so let's take a ten minute blog break, yes?

Thurday... I've had this cute nightie/slip thing forever and I love that it's thickly lined so it's not sheer, but it always just looked too much like pajamas on it's own... this jacket finally fixed that!
 Jacket - vintage via etsy
Nightie - thrifted
Shoes - Madeline

Friday... Went to a wedding out in the country on a flower farm, so went with a bit of a fancy picnic kinda look.
Dress - Trashy Diva
Seahorse pin - ebay
Purse - thrifted
Shoes - Dezario

That is all I have time for today! I'll post my "first day of school outfit" tomorrow, which was always my favorite part about going back to school anyway!

mama hates packing...

Last Friday... Went to a backyard birthday bash (yes, a different one than mine... I spend a lot of time drinking beer in lawns and on lakes - I gotta take full advantage of the short Minnesota summer!)
 Glasses - Prada
Cardigan - thrifted Old Navy
Dress - thrifted and shortened from ankle length
Pocketwatch - garage sale, chain added by me
Shoes - Steve Madden

Monday... Went out for happy hour and dinner then to see Taking Woodstock...
Blazer - thrifted from little boys section
T-shirt - Target
Necklaces - mostly thrifted
Skirt - ?? it's like 10 years old!
Sandals - Indeed

Sooooooo excited for school after the open house tonight! It was awesome getting to see all my kids again and meet all the new ones (OK, I know I work at an arts school, but today I met a kindergarten boy with shoulder length dreadlocks - this is where I draw the line! He's never had a haircut in his life!!)

On a totally unrelated note, tomorrow will be waitressing, hanging out with my client Daniel, then off to see a friend's shitty local band (I say that with love)... Friday I have the day off! Whoo-hoo! Will pack for weekend and hopefully add some stuff to the etsy... the "stuff to put on etsy pile" is starting to get ridiculously large. Friday night I am going to go to a crazy weird wedding of my crazy weird friend Nate and his pleasantly quirky fiance Molly! Then off to Wisconsin with the boy to see the parental units and then off to Chicago on Sunday for yet another wedding! I'll be back sometime Monday and then school starts Tuesday! It's going to be yet another whirlwind of a week until then but then life and my schedule should steady and I'll be able to post three times a week again!

In closing I will leave you with two pictures from my birthday that I found amusing.

JJ and Matt somehow accidentally wore the EXACT SAME OUTFIT to my birthday (JJ is imitating Matt's hair part, smile, leg position, and stole a blue cup from someone else to really make it exact!)

Also FIVE friends wore a black shirt and blue jeans to my birthday... I told you my friends were unfashionable and are confused and amazed by my outfits!

Ignore Sarah's crazy crossed-eyes... she refuses to take a normal picture ever...

birthday dress

Just to prove I'm alive... here's a quick post. Will do "real" one tomorrow while bartending, hopefully! Have to go immediately from work to school for the open house! Yay for school starting soon! I'm tired of catering to the rich, I'm ready for the blood and tears!

My birthday dress:

Necklace - World Market
Dresss - thrifted Target SAMPLE
Shoes - Jessica Simpson
Bracelets - thrifted

Stole this color scheme from a little owl I found in an antique store when I was in South Dakota:

I spent the morning bartending then went off to a BBQ at Ryan's house with a bunch of friends! Played some yard games, grilled burgers and brats, had some cocktails, and then ate some turtle cheesecake while my friends sang "The Golden Girls" theme song (we always sing it on each others birthdays, we hate the Happy Birthday song and love the Golden Girls... it was quite a sight to behold - 12 dudes and 3 ladies singing me "Thank You for Being a Friend" at the top of their lungs on the lawn... and Ryan lives on the busiest street in Uptown...) It was a perfect birthday!

Plus... I got awesome Twins tickets, David Cross tickets, and Regina Spektor tickets! What great gifts!
