Birthday, Photo Booth, Gay Pride Parade

It was Mohawk Boy's birthday the other day so here is what I wore to take him out to dinner and then go out for a few drinks with his friends. He turned 28, so until August (when I turn 30) I seem like less of a cougar as he is only a year younger than my age...

Dress -thrifted Isaac Mizrahi for Target Sample
Brooch - thrifted
Shoes - thrifted Candie's

Worked a wedding for the photo booth last night:
Tank - Target
Skirt - Alexander McQueen
Shoes - Charles David

Alright, I'll write more next week, but for now I gotta go! It's Gay Pride Parade time followed by a BBQ for a friend who is in town from Colorado. Rest assured, I am taking full advantage of my lack of schedule for right now and having the most fun ever! Laterz!

Summa Summa Summa Time

It's the first official day of summer! So I dressed the part (even though I was not doing much other than going to the doctor and Target today...)
T-shirt - Target
Necklace - thrifted
Belt - World Market
Jean shorts - thrifted Lee (cut-off by me)
Shoes - DSW (sorry, I don't know the brand, they didn't have a box and there is only a logo on the shoe, not a brand name... um, bad marketing?)
In EXCITING news, I got a new car! Carl the car has been retired after 11 years and over 130,000 miles of service (and I drove it for three years after it got totaled in a hit & run). The new ride...

I like to call him The Narwhal (because he is grey and has a unicorn horn on top) or Miracle Baby (because he almost didn't happen). It's a 2011 Chevy Aveo hatchback and I love it! So little! Amazing gas mileage! HATCH. BACK. Yaaaaaay!

Photo booth style files (6)

Aaaaaaaand, I'm back. I went to WI for five days to visit the parents. I also got to see my little bro, two grandmas, one grandpa, an aunt and a cousin. Not too shabby. I also got to drive six hours from Minneapolis to the very southeast corner of WI. In that time, I noticed that Wisconsin loves:
#1. The Packers.
#2. Pro-life billboards
#3 Adult superstores
#4 ~TIE~ Beer. Cheese.
#5. Hitting deer with their cars.

I got back late Friday evening so I could work a photo booth for a wedding on Saturday:
Dress - vintage via the Junk Bonanza last year (which I kept calling the "Trash Rodeo")
Necklace - Target
Shoes - Unlisted by Kenneth Cole

I'll put on a real outfit soon, but today is my first official "day off" since it's a weekday and I don't have to work and I'm not out of town. So it's a pajama and swim suit day, I think! I've got a to-do list a mile long so I'm gonna go get cracking! Be back soon. No really, soon. I swear!

A wedding, a crashing

Drove 2.5 hours up north to Duluth on Saturday with Mohawk Boy... went to a wedding, crashed a different wedding upstairs because... well, because.
Dress - Trashy Diva
Belt - thrifted little boys
Bangles - geometric ones won from Aesthetic Outburst, middle one is thrifted
Sandals - thrifted Nine West

The wedding was in a park at 1:30pm and the reception was in a ballroom. The hour I was in the sun for the ceremony resulted in a crazy sunburn that looks ridiculous... it was only like 65 out so I didn't really think about sunblock... oops. I'm off to go visit the parental units in Wisco tomorrow! Hooray!

Photo booth style files (5)

Worked a high school graduation party tonight, so I tried to keep it a bit more casual (I may have failed but I think the clunky shoes make it less formal.)
Dress - Roadside BBQ dress via Modcloth gift certificate (previously worn here)
Seagull pins - vintage via eBay
Shoes - Pierre Hardy for GAP

Going to a wedding in Duluth (2 hours north of MPLS) with Mohawk Boy tomorrow night, so I'll be back with some photos of actually going to a wedding instead of just working at one!

Shiny Happy People

Shirt - Julie Brown
Navy blazer - thrifted little boys
Black skirt - made by me from a terrible dress
Shoes - unlisted by Kenneth Cole, 750 thumbtacks added to the soles by me
Wedges... from that time I put 750 tacks in my sandals and couldn't feel my thumb for two weeks... but seriously, I used these sandals because I got them for free from a friend and they had never been worn. I wear a 7.5 (or sometimes a 7) and these are an 8... I think I need to sell them and make myself a pair that fit. Any takers? I'm thinking like $50? They are Unlisted by Kenneth Cole and today is the only day they have ever been worn. Email me if you are interested.

Also, in case you missed it... Blog, can I get a zoom-in on my, um, neck-al area?
Oh yes. Check it out. Much like a spinning disco ball, the sequins reflect on my neck. Who wants to awkwardly slow dance to "November Rain"??? No one??? Is everyone already crying in the bathroom because this was "your song" with your 7th grade boyfriend? Oh damn, I suppose most bloggers are too young for this to be true. Was your song "My Heart Will Go On" instead? I'll take Axl over Celine any day.

My friend Mike is moving today to WI temporarily then Seattle permanently... I'm pretty sad. Last night we all went out to karaoke to bid him farewell and performed many cheesy songs about him spreading his wings and flying away. I maaay see him next week when I go visit my parental units in the Wisco, so I may get to do the sad goodbye all over again. Boo.

Anywhoo... SCHOOOOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMA! Actually, no, let's not sing that song. Let's sing "Party all the Time" by Eddie Murphy because it is much funnier and that is what I will be doing for the next 31 days. No work. Just pool parties. Wahoo! I have never worked anywhere that wasn't a school or involved with a school, so I've always had this yearly "beginning" and "end" and I can't imagine how hard it would be to have a regular job and you just work and work and work and there is no new beginning every year to refresh yourself. Ahh, I'm spoiled, I know. I also make no money, I know.

I just bought this Marc Johns painting, which I thought was pretty perfect for me.... I use too many ellipses and I'll never have a job where I'll make much money, given that I will only work in schools or for non-profits:

My posting and commenting may be spotty over the summer, like it was last year. I plan on wearing a lot of swim suits and not much else. But I'm gonna try to really keep up with the etsy and I'll update the blog at least a few times a week! Sorry this turned into such a long-ass, wordy post! Byyyyyyyye!

Flowers and things

I love this shirt (I feel like I say that about some item of clothing every day... I guess because I usually pick one thing that I feel like wearing to build an outfit around and today it was this shirt.) The pattern is super cute and something about it just reminds me of early '80s block parties and my aunts drinking wine coolers.
Blouse - thrifted Liz Claiborne (previously worn here)
Skirt - Brooklyn Industries (previously worn here)
Wedges - Unisa

Yesterday was pretty fun. Mohawk Boy came over and we went swimming in my pool, since it reached 103  degrees in MPLS (but with 20-40mph winds so we were also getting blasted in the face with gravel and bits of trees)... then we went to a dive bar to drink shitty beers and watch a super boring Twins game. Regardless, it was fun, because he is fun. More importantly tomorrow is the last day of school!!! Then I have like 3 weeks off, then I work summer school from 8am-12pm for six weeks, then I have a few more weeks off! Wahoo! I guess this heat wave officially makes it summer (I think this graphic applies to more than Toronto, yes?)

A Benjamin, temperature-wise

It's supposed to be like a hundo today, so I tried to dress as breezy as possible, while remaining work appropriate. I also decided not to bike today, as yesterday it was 93 on my bike ride home and I was dying... I was trying to go slow, but ultimately, when the sun is just beating down on you, on the blacktop, there is nothing that is going to help. So I got home and immediately fell into the pool for an hour, which was perfect.
Necklace - thrifted
T-shirt - Target
Belt - thrifted
Skirt - American Apparel
Bangle - from a cruise
Sandals - thrifted vintage Candie's
 The deets:

As promised, here is what I wore to work a wedding for the photobooth on Saturday... I kinda felt like a fancy superhero in all this gold and bright blue (and because I stole Clark Kent's glasses, apparently):
 The sexxay back:
Glasses - thrifted vintage American Optical, lenses replaced
Necklace - thrifted
Dress - thrifted Target Sample
Bracelet - thrifted
Shoes - Steven by Steve Madden
