I'm a reverse mermaid!

Fish on top, lady on the bottom... not as sexy, but far more practical. I made the whole thing out of a little boys hoodie from Target, felt, and two ping pong balls!
Happy Halloween!!

Camel horses

I feel like this is one of those outfits that no one in real life will understand but the blogosphere will...
Sweater - thrifted
Skirt - thrifted Banana Republic
Socks - TJ Maxx
Shoes - Bakers

The horses and horseshoe on the back...

The camel coat... it was 27 degrees this morning so I decided that a long wool coat was in order (one that matched, duh! If I'm doing camel, I'm doing camel.)
 Coat - thrifted Pavilion Petite

Didja notice???? I wore this camel skirt EVERY DAY this week! Ha! I guess you didn't get to see Monday's because of my red-eye flight, but I LOVE this skirt. And it's one of the few skirts I own that is above the knee so I almost always wear knee socks or tall boots with it!

Some past wearings of the skirt (not from this week):

HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I'll be back on Sunday or Monday with some pictures of my ridiculous pantsless costume (No, I am not being Lady Gaga and I'm insulted if that's what you thought... my costume is faaaar more original than that! Not to insult all the Gagas out there though, I am just deranged about Halloween and coming up with original costumes... my worst nightmare is to see someone else dressed as the same thing.) Viva La Halloweeeeeeeen!

The precious tree

This outfit kinda makes me feel like a Target employee... but mostly it makes me feel like I fell out of the precious tree and hit every limb on the way down.

Cardigan - thrifted, vintage
Seagull pins - eBay
T-shirt - Target
Skirt - thrifted Banana Republic
Lace tights - little girls section at Target
Boots - Diba via DSW
The cutest little seagulls in zee world!

Every fall, I'm all "Oh yeah! I'm going to wake up 30 seconds earlier so I can take a coat picture every day because I have one million coats!" And then I'm running out the door to the bus stop with my gloves in my mouth and dashing back inside because I forgot my coffee on the table again, and I realize I never took a coat picture. I never do. Let's try it again, shall we?! About 90% of my coats are vintage, but I found this brown houndstooth one at TJ Maxx three years ago for $7, so I think I've gotten my money's worth out of it...
Coat - Sashimi via TJ Maxx
Scarf - TJ Maxx

Squash related fashion

Today I am dressed like a squash. or gourd. or maybe this tree by my house. If this tree wore a totally awesome lion head belt.
 Cardigan - thrifted Sigred Olsen
T-shirt - Target
Belt - thrifted Jones New York
Skirt - thrifted Banana Republic
Socks - thrifted Rodarte for Target (new)
Shoes - MIA

And while I don't want to turn this blog into making small-talk about the weather, can I get a
on this wind? Yesterday the wind was blowing like 30 miles an hour with gusts up to 45mph... it was insane!  I didn't dare open my umbrella for the rain (it would have gone inside out and would not have helped much since the rain was pretty much blowing in sideways). There was so much crap just blowing down the street. And trees falling. And it was insanely loud and rattling my windows all night. And I almost died on my walk home from the bus stop. Let's do it again today, but this time with the possibility of snow! Guh... is it spring yet?

Swank on Saturdays

On Saturday my friends JJ and Steve got married at an artist's loft.
 Necklace - thrifted
Dress - Gryphon
Shoes - Bakers

I forgot to take a picture of the back, but here is a detail shot:
The cocktail hour was outside, so I wore a swank coat that I thrifted.

The wedding was super cute and very "them." JJ made all four bridesmaid dresses, their pit bull was the ring bearer, the groom and wedding party walked down the aisle to "Only in Dreams" by Weezer and JJ walked down the aisle to "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James and the Shondells. Here she is, helping the band E.L.nO. with some percussion at the reception and wearing a felt mustache from the photobooth:

Today:
Cardigan - from a friend's "to the Goodwill pile" years ago
Shirt - vintage via eBay
Pants - Marni (secondhand shop)
Shoes - thrifted I Love Comfort

Cool nerd

I found this terrible t-shirt at a thrift store for $1 and I couldn't just leave it there... it's so inherently nerdy and sweet! Only problem is, I'm not sure I'm cool enough to pull off something this dorky...
Blazer - thrifted little boys
Shirt - thrifted
Pants - Target
Boots - Modern Vintage

The nerdiest shirt there ever was:
The booties remind me of the Proenza Schouler booties I love but will never have...

So excited for the weekend! Tonight I'm going to my friend JJ and Steve's house for enchiladas and beers instead of a traditional rehearsal dinner for their wedding tomorrow... then tomorrow = wedding! I'm so excited! They are so sweet and perfect for each other and have been together for like 11 years, owned a house together for 3 years, and JJ is almost 6 months pregnant! Adorables! I'm super excited to wear my new Gryphon dress that has weighs like 5 pounds! I'll be back with a hangover and pictures!

Rocktober

Yes, I am wearing the hair down for once. It is finally getting long enough it only makes me slightly crazy when it's down as opposed to the full on crazy of when it was chin length.
 Sweater - thrifted vintage
T-shirt - Target
Belt - thrifted
Skirt - vintage (www.stephaniegeisler.etsy.com)
Boots - Timberland

The crazy boots:
I am only kinda dressed like a hot dog today. I should have worn brown boots for the full hot dog effect. I am sorry. I let you down. I will understand if you leave me and go follow one of the other million hot dog related fashion blogs out there. But maybe the boots make me look like a burnt hot dog?

A fish wish

 Oxford - thrifted J.Crew
Necklace - vintage shop
Shirt tie - vintage from my grandma
Belt - thrifted Old Navy
Skirt - thrifted Ann Taylor Loft
Shoes - Pink Studio

The fish necklace:

I am suddenly lacking in the motivation department this week... I get home from work and I just want to  take a nap then read and craft all night instead of going running and doing boring things like dishes. I figure I'll give myself a few days off and hopefully my motivation will return. Book club tonight, we read Super Sad True Love Story (actually, I have to go read the last 30 pages right now!) It's my turn to suggest 4-5 books for our next meeting and then we vote and read one... any suggestions for good books?

Just call me Wilma

A man on the bus today told me that my beads made me look like Wilma Flintstone, which is a valid point.

The walking undead

So the zombie pub crawl was hilarious and super fun! No final count yet, but there were around 10,000 people there! I wound up wearing the Blind Melon bee girl costume, since I loved it when I wore it six years ago for Halloween and figured it was time to resurrect it. It was a big hit and I got asked to take pictures with a lot of strangers. There were a ton of really neat and creative zombies! Some highlights of my friends and I:

Yes, I am in fact dancing to "No Rain" since someone turned it on the jukebox.

Today.. I'm probably not supposed to be wearing pastels in fall, but oh well. It's so warm out, I don't care!
 Cardigan - thrifted J.Crew
Dress - thrifted vintage
Sandals - Frye

All that good zombie fun makes me more excited for Halloween! I've been working on my costume for a few days, but you'll just have to wait to find out what it is! I like for it to be a surprise so I never tell my friends ahead of time what I'm going to be!

The cutest white dress in all the land

Ok, fine. It's off-white. I found this dress in a thrift store in the middle of nowhere in Wisconsin, on the six hour drive back from my parents house to Minneapolis (which took like 12 hours because of all the thrifting and then my car troubles...) and I loooooove it! I had to wear it on it's own one more time before it gets cold!

Dress - thrifted vintage
Watch - Michael Kors
Sandals - thrifted Candies

On my bike ride to and from work, I cross the railroad tracks a few times. If a train comes by, I have to sit there and wait as it slowly goes by for like10 minutes... which is annoying on the way to work (uh, I'm late because I ran into some train traffic?) but on the way home is fine. Here's a nice little shot of the train with downtown Minneapolis in the background from yesterday afternoon:

So I'm doing the "Zombie Pub Crawl" this Saturday... yes, hundreds of undead zombies wandering around drinking... anyway, I'm trying to decide which of my previous Halloween costumes to zombify... zombie pregnant cheerleader? zombie Blind Melon bumblebee girl? zombie Little Orphan Annie? zombie Frida Kahlo? zombie Ginger from Gilligans Island? zombie Maude Lebowski.?  It's a tough decision. I'll be back on Monday with some stories and some pictures I'm sure...

Why yes, my skirt is made of wood

Whoo! It's supposed to be like 75 degrees today (even though there was frost on the ground this morning and I could see my breath on my bike ride to work), so I'm busting out my favorite sleeveless blouse one last time! This skirt is a favorite too! I've had it for years and I totally love it! It's one of those pieces I'll never part with, even though it is just from Target. Plus Rodarte totally busted out the woodgrain pattern clothes for their Spring 2011 line, which I liked but didn't love.
Blouse - thrifted vintage
Skirt - Isaac Mizrahi for Target
Wood bangles - all thrifted
Shoes - Jessica Simpson

Fat wood bangles and wood soled shoes:

But trust me, don't forget you are wearing this skirt and go to the hardware store. Just don't.
