Lucette

Lucette was Paul Bunyan's sweetheart, in case you didn't know. There is a giant statue of her in Hackensack, MN. There are about a million giant Paul Bunyan statues around MN and they are all hilarious and awesome.
 Jacket - thrifted Woolrich
T-shirt - Target
Skirt - eBay (I bought it to be part of a Halloween costume but it wasn't stiff enough for what I needed so now I just wear it as a skirt...my casual tutu.)
Tights - Target
Shoes - Seychelles

I grew up in a small town  in Wisconsin. We had "Lumberjack Days" every year where everyone wore flannel to school and we ate pancakes for lunch. I remember winning the costume contest because my dad made me a three foot double ax out of wood that we sprayed painted silver with a wooden handle. It was awesome. In high school our gym teacher was the Women's World Lumberjack Champion and brought in videos of her competitions from ESPN. When we had our swimming unit in gym class, we would do the usual water polo and diving and swimming, but we also learned log rolling. People always think I'm lying because it seems like something you would put in a movie about growing up in a small town in Wisco and it's such a weird thing but I assure you it's true. Log rolling. It's also true that my middle school shop teacher only had six fingers. It was concerning. Do I want to learn how to use big saws and drills from a man who's rocking a 60% (which is a D-) on the finger-keeping front? No. Luckily I escaped with all my digits intact and made one very cute little wood stool that I still use in my walk-in closet!

I did not!~

Also, I ADORE that you own a thing you refer to as your "casual tut". I'm calling mine that from now on.

The other week I wore my black tutu (the only one, so it's both casual AND fancy) under a red and black buffalo plaid dress.

I'm quite jealous of your lumberjack days. The most exciting thing we did was Twin Day...

I am a rotten Minnesotan! I've never heard of Lucette! Sigh. But now that I've heard of "casual tutu" I totally want one.

I did not know about Lucette but now I do and I like to learn new things so thank you. I wish I'd learned log rolling in gym class, that sounds fun!

I grew up in suburban IL but still had a similar experience in the Wood Shop department... My teacher's name was Mr. Stump... and he was missing MULTIPLE fingers!! No Joke.

Love the mixture of the buffalo plaid with the tutu-esque skirt.

I've seen the Lucette statue, and a lot of the Paul Bunyan ones. I think roadside attractions are hilarious.

Well, it's nice to know that if/as I relocate to Wisconsin, I have a backup career of lumberjacking.

I feel as though I did a song for a piano recital that was about Paul Bunyan and it mentioned Lucette. I love your little story with it - and LOVE that you learned log rolling!

But I love your outfit more - the buffalo plaid with your "casual tutu" is awesome.

I love the tutu especially paired with the lumberjackiness! Thanks for the story too! I love hearing about other people's lives, or I'm just nosey!

Nailed it! YOu totally NAILED this outfit.

Good thing you walked away with all your fingers and glad you can see the benefit of all that work. :)

Best true story I have ever heard. It almost makes me want to go visit up north but maybe I will wait until after the nasty snowstorm disappears.

haha awesome :) we had an entire forestry program at my high school (best in the state, which is saying something...) and every year we would host the "redneck games" and it was not unusual for students to be seen wandering the halls holding chainsaws. we also had a sugar shack on the premises, which was actually pretty awesome.

Your lumberjack look puts mine psuedo lumberjack look to shame. Wool plaid alone does not a lumberjack make ;)

IT LOOKS FANTASTIC.
