Psychedelic chevron

I love this dress and it's crazy pattern and drop waist. I'm super short waisted so it's awesome to feel like I have a torso for a day!
 Glasses - Prada
Vest - thrifted
Dress - gift (vintage via church sale)
Tights - TJ Maxx
Shoes - thrifted Joan Helpern Signature

So have any of you ever done the online dating thing? I'm ready to start dating again but I am not sure where to start. I've gone out "manhunting" with my friend Amber a few times, but we're both pretty shy and I'm not sure just hanging around bars and concerts is the best way to meet quality dudes. I also volunteered at that art gallery and I figure doing more things like that can't hurt... but I'm kind of lost! It's been like 4 years since I've been on a first date! Any sites you guys can recommend? Is it worth doing one that costs money like match.com vs. free ones like okcupid? Gaaa! I'm nervous!

I've never done the online dating thing, but I have friends who have, and who really like it. The ones that like it swear by match.com.

Also, I ADORE that dress, and it looks darling with the little shrug!

I think online dating is certainly worth giving a try.
I met my fiancé on OkCupid so I am always a fan of that site. After I met him, a friend of mine joined and met his now wife. My cousin met her husband on eHarmony and a few of my sorority sisters have met their boyfriends/fiancés on there as well.
I think its best to have honest expectations and to remember safety first, while you could be meeting the love of your life you could also meet a total creeper (I know I did a few times) and its good to let someone know where you're going and who you're meeting.
Also, it likely won't happen over night. I was on OkCupid for 5 years, talked to a lot of people, met a few, and after pretty much giving up and starting a fresh profile met my fiancé, who was totally worth the wait and the frogs I had to kiss to find him.
Good luck!
Total side note, I love your blog and your closet!

What a fabulous frock!

I've never done online dating, but some of my closest friends meet their spouses that way.

i've never dated online, but my mom has met some really nice guys that way. she's on several of the sites - she thinks you've gotta sign up for them all haha. good luck!

I met my boyfriend of six years on a shitty myspace-style knockoff profile site.. it was more about finding people with common interests than finding dates, but (of course!) romance can spring from common interests. I'd suggest joining casual "stuff you like" profile sites rather than paying to be matched up with people - unless you're particularly looking to definitely go on dates.

Good luck!

That dress makes me want to disco! I think that if I wasn't with a Gentleman I'd be all over the internet dating thing. My friends are doing it and I wish, sort of, that I could join them. But I think it's also important to remember that you get out of it what you put in. Prince Charming isn't going to show up on your doorstep (although my Fed Ex guy is reallllly cute!)

i did the match.com thing for a while + met my last boyfriend (pre-hubby) that way. we dated for 2 years and were pretty serious.
a couple im good friends with met online + are now married for almost 3 years.

maybe try one of those speed-dating events? you only have a short amount of time with each person, so youre not stuck on a full date with them, but whenever the full date does come around, its not totally blind... i never did one, but it always sounded like fun...

I've never done online dating, but a few of my friends have used match.com and seemed to like it.

I like that pattern. I have a short torso too, so I also like patterned dresses.

I would totally recommend online dating. It's great for those of us who are a little shy and you can pre-screen. Plus, it's kind of a neat way to practice dating and meet a lot of different types of people. I met my partner through online dating, so of course I'm a big fan!

I really like that dress!

I've been online dating recently with mixed success. I found plentyoffish not that good, but okcupid has given me some successes, as it does at least try and match you with people you'd like. I've met a lot of great new friends on there too. I'd say give it a go, you've got nothing to lose!

I have a lot of friends who've had success with online dating. I think it's funny that, before he met me, my gentleman friend signed up for E-Harmony and was told that no one was compatible with him. Obviously, he was meant just for me!

Good luck, and remember to be safe in however you go about meeting new people.

I like this dress a lot. I love the colors with your red hair, too.

I have one or two brushes with online dating. One was one PlanetOut and I never went on the date - someone I knew from the scene ended up dating her for like 5 years though, and I wouldn't have wanted to date this person anyway. But it was sufficiently awkward bc the lesbot scene is so small.

I went on one Missed Connections date (he posted it for me, my coworker saw it). And he was nice but not for me.

And I think I looked at match/nerve.com at one point and made half a profile, didn't realize it was "live", had people email me and then my friend find it and email me...within 12 hours...so I freaked out and deleted it.

Good luck! :D

There's something around here call Events and Adventures - planned activities that single folks can sign up to do. I don't know how worthwhile it is, but it seems a bit more reasonable than relying on an online persona.

My daughter met her wonderful fiance on eHarmony---he was only her third "match", less than a month after joining.

I love those shoes in the bottom picture. I have heard good things about match.com but not much about any other site. A few people I have known have gotten married from their online dating so I think (and hope)it will help you find someone you like.

I've done a fair amount of online dating, mainly in between relationships with people I met elsewhere until I met my current boyfriend. Ive tried match.com (has the most people but felt most like the bar scene to me), eharmony (which is definitely geared towards people who want to get married. I only tried them briefly. After I continued to be matched with really lame people and then reading about their ultra conservative founder I was super turned off) , and okcupid. I am a bit biased towards okcupid which is the only site I had any luck with. I met my boyfriend there and he's awesome! OKcupid has a lot going for it from my point of view- it's free (but not low budget), has a much more laid back vibe, doesn't take itself too seriously, has fun questions to answer, and seems to have a higher percentage of interesting and semi to very quirky people. My main complaint with the other sites was that everyone seemed REALLY BORING and I came across so many "Im just an average guy" profiles which drove me nuts. Who wants to date average? OKCupid people seemed better overall, plus it's free so there's no worries about having to "get your monies worth", you can just take it slow. WOW... I wrote a lot, especially since I never comment. ANyways... good luck!

This dress is super cute.

I have never done online dating but, my cousin met her BF on OkCupid. They have been together for 6 years and are on the engagement/marriage/kids boat so that might not be a bad place to start, good luck!
