East side

I'm baaaaaaaaack! I've been out in Washington DC and NYC for 10 days visiting a few friends and turning 29 years old! We flew out on Friday Aug 20 and returned on Sunday Aug 29, just in time for our fantasy football draft (I'm a sports nerd, ok?!) We stayed with the boy's best friend since birth (really!) and his girlfriend in Alexandria, Virginia.  We spent a few days exploring DC on our own and with our friend Brittany who came from Salisbury, Maryland. She has an old VW convertible and took us on our own Monuments by Moonlight tour!

We went to all the Smithsonian museums: the Museum of Natural History (my TOTAL fave!), the Museum of American History, the Air and Space Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and the Smithsonian Castle. We also stopped by the White House.

We went to a Nationals vs. Cubs game (what's up, $5 tickets!) which was actually pretty boring... we also went to the Palace of Wonders, a freak-show themed bar and burlesque show.

We took the Bolt Bus up to NYC to visit our friend Chris who just moved there in June.  We were originally supposed to stay with him at his house in Brooklyn but due to circumstances that may or may not have involved an illegal green card wedding, we stayed at the Hotel New Yorker. Our room was on the 36th floor, which had an awesome view! Disclaimer: I have NEVER littered intentionally in my life, BUT we couldn't resist throwing a paper airplane (or two) our of our window and watching it slowing float and glide all over the city. We miraculously found it on the street a few minutes later, getting run over by cabs!

On Thursday, Aug 26 it was my 29th birthday. We spent forever in line for 50% off Billy Elliot tickets, but got them! We ate dinner at the Houndstooth Pub, where Chris insisted I try frog legs for the first time in my life. I agreed but I don't think I'll eat them again, they tasted like bad catfish and LOOKED like frog butts, which was disturbing. Then we went to Billy Elliot on Broadway! I can't explain how much we loved it and how amazing our seats were! Brittany met up with us again after the show, this time in NYC! We went out for a few drinks for my birthday and had a grand ol' time!

Chris followed us back to DC to visit for a few days while Brittany went off to visit some friends in New Jersey. We spent a few days not doing the tourist thing and just hanging out together like old times, back when we all lived in Minneapolis. We left Sunday and now I've got a week off before school starts again! Yay for cheap vacations (thanks to flying with buddy passes and staying with friends!)

There were a million fashion bloggers around DC/NYC that I would have LOVED to meet up with, but coordinating our two city/five friend vacation was hard enough, and I figure I'll be back again sooner rather than later! I should be back to regular posting on Tuesday, when school finally starts, I've had an amazing and relaxing summer, but I'm ready to get back in a regular routine!
