Ring around the Roses

 Cardigan - Nine West
Dress - vintage via Kennedy Holmes
Necklace - somewhere in Korea
Wedges - Charles David

Details, details:

Ok, few more things here. Everyone has their little insecurities and quirks. I am insecure about my hands. Stupid, I know. And certainly not a crippling insecurity, I just wish they weren't so short and stubby (and it certainly doesn't help that I've bit my nails for 20 years... more on that in a bit). So I've kinda hated my hands my whole life (well, except I like that I can blame their stubby fingers for why I was rubbish at the piano as a kid instead of the fact that I didn't practice...)  All through high school and college I wore rings every day to try to pretty them up. When I started working with special needs teens, I stopped wearing them because I didn't want to accidentally scratch one of the kids. So for the past 6 years, I haven't worn rings. I decided it's time to bring the rings back, just because I never accessorize my outfits with much jewelry so I'll just wear rings all the time! The hands in question:

(I've been waiting to do this post until that huge burn on my left hand stopped looking like the chemical kiss burn from Fight Club, but well it's been 12 days and I figured it wasn't THAT gross looking anymore... I burnt it when I was heat-setting a million t-shirts for the museum gig)

So I've been wearing that silver square ring on my left hand (I made it in high school in art class) and the rose ring on my right hand (yes, I enjoy mixing silver and gold, it's a vintage Avon ring). Then about 6 weeks ago, Sarah from LuShae Jewelry emailed me to see if I would be interested in doing a jewelry review. She said, pick out a piece for free then good, bad, or ugly, just write your honest opinion on the store and the piece. They have super cute rings, pendants, bracelets, and earrings, but I went with a ring, a ring named "Christine's Peridot Ring"...  fate!

It's my name, it's my birthstone (though they have this design with many stones to choose from), and my birthstone is also my favorite color! It arrived super fast in a cute little box and I have to say, I LOVE IT! I have worn it for the past 6 weeks, banging it around the airport and Korea, while screenprinting and washing my hands 50 times a day at work and it still looks like the day I got it! Sparkly and new! So wahoo to them! Two thumbs up from this lady!

Anywhoodle, here's the plan: I am going to stop biting my nails. Day one. I've quit before, for up to 6 months at a time, but after 20 years it's so ingrained in me, I don't even notice when I'm doing it. So, wish me luck, I'll update you from time to time. But I REALLY need to stop it. Now.

Cute shift! Good luck with the nails thing. I need to stop crossing my legs so much.

Hee! That ring and you were meant to be together. Husband Mike has stubby fingers, too, and it drives him nuts.

I love the ring! Good luck with the nail biting thing! Does it help you to not bite them if you have them painted? I know that helps some people with the issue.

I never liked my hands...mine are also short and stubby especially compared to my mother's and sister's, and my nail beds are extremely short and round. I started wearing huge rings just as a fuck-you thing. It's not like dainty ones made my hands look any better, so why not go the other way?

That necklace is adorable, first of all, and second of all, I LOVE that ring - it's also my birthstone! I've been wearing a fake David Yurman on my right ring finger that also has a peridot stone in it for awhile. Set me back all of $10 and I get compliments on it all the time. What's the price on the ring you received? I really love how it looks!

i also used to bite my nails, so badly that your nails actually look long compared to how badly i used to bite mine. even today, if a nail brakes or splits, i start gnawing on it.
for the most part, though, i have quit, and heres how:
(1) always keep your nails painted. investing in a good manicure is a good start. (i am MUCH less prone to biting my nails if they are polished and pretty)
(2) always carry around a nail file, clippers, and cuticle oil (i have a cuticle oil pen that is easy to toss in my purse). that way, if something catches your attention that you want to bite, you just have to retrain yourself to clip, file, or buff.
(3) let your friends know you want to quit biting and to say something if they catch you. my fiance nags the crap out of me whenever he catches me biting or picking, so eventually i stop, just to get HIM to stop!

for the most part, this tactic has worked for me!

you look super ladylike and profes today.
and i super love that ring you picked out, i love peridot, although it's not my birthstone, it's such a great color!
i'll take the don't-bite-your-nails challenge as well...it's really hard to quit.

That is such a beautiful ring, I love it!

And the scalloped embellishments on the cardigan are great.

Good luck with your nails!

I too used to bite my nails, and painting my nails religiously helped me nip that habit. It is so simple and works like a charm.
