Khaki wishes and cookie dreams

I myself have never been discriminated against or judged unfairly on the basis of my appearance or lifestyle. However, this weekend, I went to a birthday party for a girl named Katie, along with about 20 of her friends. Katie, and the majority of the other people who were at her party are lesbians. Sitting in the restaurant, it was so weird to be on that side of things. The stares. The whispers. The disapproving looks. It was my first taste of blind judgement and leering curiosity... and something I am so thankful I don't have to deal with every day. It makes me so proud of all my gay friends, and their constant bravery and inner strength to have to live like that all the time. Sorry, this is something that doesn't have to do with anything style related, but just something that really bothered me and I want to remember.

Glasses - Prada
Cardigan - thrifted vintage
T-shirt - Target
Skirt - thrifted Banana Republic
Socks - Target
Shoes - Bakers

Yes, I am dressed like a hot dog, again.

My best friend and his husband avoid eating out in the suburbs of their city for that very reason. It makes me really sad that human rights are denied to certain segments of our society.

I love the cardi and the socks.

Ugh, how AWFUL. How can people be so rude and base?

Your outfit is adorable.

People can be awful sometimes. I'm sorry that you and your friends were treated rudely.

I'm sorry people were so rude. I'll never understand hate.

On a lighter note, I love your cardigan :)

How awful! But a good lesson to keep in mind, for sure. Love everyone.

And also, DAMN I LOVE THIS OUTFIT!

People are rude and ignorant! But some (such as yourself!) are lovely and stylish! Maybe if we all put lovely things, acceptance and freedom out into the world more will grow? I hope so.

I love this cardigan.

Yeah, it's funny because I live in Brooklyn and my last partner was a woman and I would forget about the plebes until we were out of the city and suddenly it...mattered?

Most of the times we just got some guy looking me (the femme) up and down purposefully to disrespect her (the butch), but once some guy did make a pointed comment about how sick he thought it was and how he wanted to kill us when we walked by holding hands. I didn't hear it and I thought he'd just made a comment about me, as per usual...but she didn't tell me until later. She was SO PISSED, and rightly so!

Anyway, I had meant to reply to this and this story:

...made me remember.

Dating a guy now, I never have to deal with this - it's insane how much easier it is in that respect.
