Day two of academichic's "Dress Your Best" week (dressing to celebrate what you love about your body!) For day two, I picked my feet. My feet take me running 15 miles every week, biking all over town, they can wear heels all day and have fabulous balance for yoga and snowboarding. Oh feet, I abuse you and you just keep on truckin'... so tooties, I love you. Plus, I happen to have very nicely shaped feet, toes, and toenails and can spread all my toes apart so I can easily pick things up with them (not that I do very often). So to draw attention to my feet, I wore the brightest shoes I have and kept the rest of the outfit pretty basic.

And since I know I will get asked... here's the reason for the five ants crawling on my foot:
#1. I really like ants. I think they are neat and pretty and super fascinating!
#2. It's a bit of a monument to my own insignificance... I think it's so easy to get all wrapped up in your own life and problems and forget about the fact that there is a whole other world out there - at any given point of my day someone is giving birth, dying, laughing, being raped, getting married, etc. It is the best and worst moments of people's lives, RIGHT. THIS. SECOND. There are so many awesome and terrible things going on... So I'm just another ant in the world, get over it, time to move on. Do what you can and be fucking nice about it.
P.S. To reader Amanda (and anyone else who was wondering!), I tend to look at the ground in my photos because I only take 2 or 4 photos at 7am... when I look at the camera (with flash, which is bad for photos, I know) I tend to have a half-blinking/stoned look on my face or red devil flash eyes... it's just a time-saver to look at the ground! But today, just for you, I took a few more and looked at the camera! I know I ought to haul my camera and tripod out to the railroad tracks right behind my house and take outdoor shots without a flash, but I have three jobs and more hobbies than time, so I just throw down one plain photo of what I am wearing every weekday and call it good! I know I'm not a model and this is not a Vogue editorial (not that I'm knocking bloggers who do beautiful editorial shots... I love those blogs too, it's just not who I am!)

yknow, i have always wondered about your ants too, but i never wanted to intrude to ask! i love them. :)
part of me was wondering if each one represented something of significance, kinda like the dixie chicks chicken-feet tattoos:

I ADORE this look, lady! The bright, bright turquoise on your precious feet and right up by your lovely face are fabulous accents.
Wow! Though you don't do black very often, this is an awesome look! Love the all black with the killer turquoise necklace and shoes.
Also, love what you have to saw about the ants - it is all so very true!
You not only have great feet with a kick ass tattoo, but also amazing shoes! Also, I must openly admire your ability to wear just about every color well. Love the turquoise.
And p.s. I totally get the indoor pictures thing (I look away too because it's difficult to get a straight on face shot that doesn't look a bit off). I also love the eye candy of the editorial shots but don't have the time, patience, or willingness to spend relationship capital dragging my fella into this (plus I live in a rough neighborhood and they'd take my camera if it were on a tripod). But that's what's cool about the style blogging community- everyone bring something different to the table!
This is such a chic combination with the black and glasses, and chunky necklaces. I am really wanting to try this look now! Thanks :)
first of all i love who you are and i so needed to hear the get over it and move on, do what you can part! yeah thats how i feel as well so you go girl! and you rock those tooties! hugs!
You have some great shoes, and I love turquoise (aqua) you wear it well. I also love the ants. My daughter wants a bee but she is only 15, I let her get her nose pierced isn't that enough.
I simply adore those shoes.

Woah! You look so super chic!! And I love the thoughtful significance of your ant tattoos.
LOve the pop of blue to highlight your feetsies...
And the ant tattoo? I often think the same as you as I struggle to come to terms with how I fit in to this world... I never thought of the ant analogy though!
I LOVE your explanation behind your tattoo-- very true :)
I'm inspired to try something similar myself- I've got fabo green shoes that I'm just reminded of as I enjoy your photos.
March on, Ants!
I'm going to do my feet later this week too! Everyone should appreciate their feet more, they support us!
I love your tattoo, it's a good reminder!

Of course I adore the turquoise shoe, but I am even more taken with your little ants. Hurray, for your feet. They certainly deserve it! - E.
Cool! I'm glad that you took a shot facing the camera, and I think you pulled it off with great success. Thanks for answering me! :)
