Fur collar - thrifted vintage
Oxford - thrifted little boys Cherokee

These paint splattered jeans are super old. I think they're from when I was about 20? My sister used to work for a Macy's furniture store and when she left we went on a big shopping spree together at Macy's to abuse her employee discount one last time. These were on clearance and with her discounts I think they wound up being like $8. I still love them (though I'm sure it's partially due to the fun memory too!)

P.S. I joked to Nate about how yesterday was my half birthday, which means I'm 32.5, which means I'm halfway to retirement. So I was shocked when these showed up to my work, wishing me the happiest half birthday ever:

Nate and I have had a gift certificate to The Blue Door forever. We tried to go a couple weeks ago but they don't take reservations and the wait for a table was an hour and forty five minutes (and it was already 7:45pm!) So we finally went early and just knew we were gonna have to wait (luckily they have an awesome beer selection so that made the wait easier). They're known for their burgers including the Jiffy Burger which has bacon, pepperjack, and chunky peanut butter on it. It was so awesome! My grandpa has been trying to get me to try peanut butter on a burger for like two years and I finally did and it was amazing! And more importantly, why is an 85 year old man ahead of me on culinary trends?

Precious & Punky

Sweater - thrifted newstock Target
Pants - thrifted LL Bean (altered from long flares by me)
Ballet flats - Mudd

It started snowing on Thursday afternoon and we got about 9 inches (on top of a fresh layer of ice.) So there was no school on Friday since the governor declared a state of emergency and suspended all non-essential travel after there were so many car accidents that the plows couldn't even get through to clear the snow. Crazy! On Saturday Nate and I got up early and drove very slowly over to my sister's house to watch Peder and Henrik so she could work all day. She's an interior designer and they were having a big warehouse sale of all their floor model furniture. The boys are both getting so big!

Monday... a bit of preppy punk.

Nate gets done with work early on Mondays so he went to the grocery store and made me dinner, which was cute. He also rented Machete Kills which was as ridiculous and gory as expected.

Cropped pants - thrifted NY & Co.

Dudes, work has been insane lately (we're short staffed in several positions all of a sudden due to some people getting new jobs and some people being out with medical problems) so I've been doing two jobs (sometimes three) for a long time. So I'm rocking some daytime sequins to cheer myself up. It's been a long couple of weeks and will continue to be crazy this week. Hopefully things return to normal next week... it has to. Or I'm gonna cry. In the bathroom. At work. Like I'm a high school girl.

Woo! It's supposed to get up to 40 degrees today (which will hopefully melt some of the snow we got yesterday!)

This past weekend Nate and I snuck to Marshall, MN to surprise his mom! It's her 60th birthday this upcoming Thursday so we thought we'd catch her by surprise by showing up a week early. Nate's sister Krista and her family also drove to Marshall and met up with us at a local brewery, then we all drove over to the house and parked a few houses down so she wouldn't see our lights. Nate was on the phone with his mom wishing her a Happy Valentine's Day and lying about how we were on our way back from dinner when we all rang the doorbell. She was super surprised! It was cute! We met up with some other relatives on Saturday and took her out to dinner.

Today... Happy Valentine's Day! A bunch of the kids at school are dressed up in heart shirts and they all made little mailboxes for their cards. Cuuuuute! Nate and I sorta celebrated last weekend (though we don't really celebrate anyway... but it involved a 1960s leather Vikings duffle bag and huge mounted steer horns. Romantic, eh?)

I also got another tattoo yesterday (on the other side of the seahorse) which I'll show you later. Yay!

Fairy tales can come true

Yesterday...
IMG_3860
Jacket - Jacob
Shirt - gift
Jeans - Paul & Joe for Target
Shoes - Sack's 5th Avenue brand

I know you probably can't read the shirt so here ya go:
IMG_3859

Nate gave me this shirt as a bit of an early Valentine's Day gift. It's from the movie "The Great Outdoors" - I always laughed and told Nate I wanted the proprietor of the cabin's shirt:
I think it's a hilarious shirt, to brag about the fact that you've been to Duluth (which I have and it was full of Stormtroopers!) I think it's awesome he actually found it for me!

After work, I changed into my concert boots (big combat boots that I've worn to like 100 concerts over the years) and Nate and I went to First Ave to see...

NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL.

I have been obsessed with them since my senior year of high school and I didn't think I'd ever get to see them play live (it's been 15 years since they've toured.) I saw Jeff Mangum (the lead singer) play a solo show two years ago but this was the whole band! Standing there, it was like all of 16-year-old Christine's dreams had come true... I was at a Neutral Milk Hotel show at one of the finest independent rock clubs in history with my cute skateboarder husband. Swooooooooon.

Sorry kids, no photos from the event at the request of the band (I suspect most people did not honor this request, but I did.) Besides, I don't need a photo to remember - I'll never forget it - I assure you!

Pyramids

Friday...
2-7-14
Sweater - Gap
Long sleeve tee - Target
Fingerless gloves - Michael Kors
Jeans - Gap
Shoes - MIA

Glove detail (these are kinda a pain in the ass to wear at work since I spend all day washing my hands and putting on nitrile gloves but Fridays are usually slow so I thought I'd risk it... it worked out surprisingly well!)
Michael Kors armwarmers

Friday night Nate and I made tacos and rented Escape Plan (we love terrible action movies and waaaay past their prime Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger escaping from prison was just that - terrible.)   Saturday we went to an Irish pub for dinner, played trivial pursuit, and I geeked out over the Olympics all day. Sunday we babysat Henrik and Peder so my sister and her husband could go see  the final performance of Cabaret.

Me Henrik Peder

Henrik always points out Uncle Nate's "owies" (tattoos) and tried to "fix the owie" by rubbing it with a hairbrush...

Yesterday...

Today... it was -20 out, which calls for a giant sweater (And an even giant-er coat to go over it!)
IMG_3797
Cardigan - thrifted vintage

I didn't blog yesterday because I felt like I had nothing to say and I hoped I would today... but I don't. I guess it's just the perils of the RAWR (Responsible Adult Winter Routine.) Booooooring.

Crabbage

Oxford, sweater, cropped pants: Christine's winter 2014 uniform - today in hot pink!
IMG_3786
Sweater - thrifted vintage Devon Originals
Oxford - thrifted little boys Cherokee
Cropped pants - thrifted NY & Co.
Wedges - Ralph Lauren

After a weekend full of beers and Super Bowl snacks, I made us this crunchy cabbage salad for dinner yesterday and it was delicious! It made a tooooon though, so looks like we'll be eating it for a few days!  Does everyone do this? Whenever I eat unhealthily for a few days, I feel the need to eat uber-healthy for a few days to make up for it, then I go back to normal.

Too much

Today...
IMG_3776
Necklace - TJ Maxx
Sweater - thrifted newstock Target
Pants - thrifted
Shoes - Nordstrom brand

We had a super fun weekend. Cabaret was awesome and we got really good seats for cheap since they offer an educator discount! Saturday we made bicuits and gravy from scratch and went to thrift store. Then we met up with some friends at The Local for Natalie's 30th birthday. She just had her first child in October so this was their first time getting a sitter and she was super happy to be out of the house! It was a lot of fun and this happened...

IMG_3773
(yes, I totally wore this same outfit on Saturday - busted!)

Sunday we made soft pretzels and puppy chow and watched the Super Bowl with some friends.
