I used to wear this sweater all the time in 8th grade.1995. I was a total Free People junkie. The arms were really annoying though. They were three layers thick, blue, and had multicolored letters on them that spelled out Free People. So I cut them off. Rebel, rebel. I also wore Dr. Marten's a lot in 8th grade (though not these ones, my feet were much smaller then). So anyway, today I am 29 going on 13.
Vest - Free People (sweater from 8th grade, I cut the arms off years ago)
Black shirt - Target
Skirt - thrifted
Tights - TJ Maxx
Shoes - Dr. Marten's

I only took one photo to show the back of the vest and it turned out blurry - oops! You get the idea though, yes?
To really get in 8th grade mode, now I just need to spend the whole day writing notes full of drawings to my friend Annie and then fold it up in a really elaborate manner.

Wow! even in Grade 8 you had style! I was too busy hoping no one would notice me!
How great that you saved your clothes from then (and that they still fit you). I love the back of the sweater!
yes! i'm so glad to hear other people hoard, i mean hang on to, clothes forever and then alter them to suit new tastes.
this also reminds me that i have to break out my red skirt again soon.
I was really into Free People too. They still have some cute things.
I have one survivor from the 8th grade: the most fab pair of wide leg tweed pants but, they just got a hole in the knee and it might be time to let them go...
I loved free people when I was in 9th grade, which would have been around the same time. I remember having to beg my mom to take me to urban Outfitters, since she hated it and thought it was too loud.
Oh, you rebel! I don't mind though-it worked out alright! I definitely remember trying to figure out all the elaborate ways to fold notes!

love it! you can't even tell that the arms are missing, it looks awesome.
This is such a grunge outfit, I love it. =D
I only just discovered your blog via WWANW and just read a bunch of posts. Love your style and your writing, not to mention your gorgeous hair.
that vest is great! and its awesome you're able to make it work after all those years, with just a little modification. i used to wear docs all the time too, and have been wanting a new pair. ~joelle
Oh god, 8th grade. Doc Martens all the way. I think I did have at least one pair of the 14-eye lace-ups (in badass black, of course), but my favorites were the low-top oxblood red ones. Ah, middle school. Gotta say, I'm not nostalgic for much from that time, but Docs do make the list.
