Brave Friday

People usually have "Casual Friday" at work but I wore ripped jeans to work yesterday, so what could possibly be more casual than that? Rather than having Sweatpants Friday, I decided to have Brave Friday. I've had these pants for like two years and I've never worn them but I've never sold them either. When Mondo made those awesome purple pants on Project Runway, I thought about these pants and vowed to wear them or sell them. I finally feel good wearing them today.
Cardigan - inherited from aunt, Bloomingdale's brand
Tank - little boys Fruit of the Loom
Belt - thrifted
Pants - thrifted, Bleyle for Hooper
Shoes - Sak's Fifth Ave brand

I generally avoid suede shoes like the plague, but these were on ultra-mega clearance at the end of last winter and ultra-mega cute so I caved.

Reason #2 I am being brave? I broke up with the boy. It's been in the works since like September, but it takes a while to end 3+ years of dating plus a year and a half of being "step-friends" before that (you know those people you see all the time because they are friends with your friends but you aren't actually their friend and don't have their number or hang out with them without the intermediary friend being there? Step-friends. Acquaintances. Whatever.) Anyhoodle, it's finally official. I am single. Time to start having spaz attacks over going on first dates again. Guh. It's exciting but scary!

Those look FABULOUS on you. Perfect.

And my condolences and congrats all at once. That must have been really hard. <3

I'm a creepy blog stalker since I've never commented before...BUT:
1) faaabulous use of print. High fives on that bravery front. And 2) Sorry to hear but also excited to see if you share any of your fun date stories!

You look like a military Rupert Bear! If that doesn't inspire bravery, I don't know what will.

Well done on finally making the break, it's better than letting it linger. I'll be thinking of you.

I'm also a lurker that has never commented but I do love your blog and feel an affinity to you because of your red hair! (although mine is straight...I love your curls!) Anyways... those pants are great. Way to be brave- both the pants and the moving on from a relationship that was no longer working.

I love those shoes! I'm also not a huge fan of suede because it's requires more care than regular leather but sometimes you just can't resist!

Kudos on the breakup. I can definitely emphasize, since I recently broke up with my bf of 7 years (the breakup had been in the making for a long time too). By the time I have my next first date (trying to take my time) it will be almost 8 years since I've had a first date. Exciting but scary is exactly how I feel!

i think brave friday should happen more often because these pants are a 12 on the awesome scale of 1-10.

Those pants are killer. Congrats (?) on being single. It takes a strong person to know what they need in life and then take that path.

sorry to hear about the breakup - seems like you're taking it well though, and i'm sure dates will be lining up in no time (if they haven't already).

You know, pretty lady, not many people could pull off those pants but you so totally can.

Good luck on this next phase of your life. I have a feeling it is going to be awesome for you!

Wow, brave on both counts for sure! The pants are fab, and it sounds like you're happy about your decision. Better relationships are definitely attainable!

I really like the pants! I'm not brave enough to wear yellow ones, but I used to wear a pair of brown/black plaid pants until they didn't fit anymore. I felt like a total nerd and loved it. :)

What a tough decision - brave indeed!

I just found your blog a few weeks ago, and this is actually my favorite outfit! I love your style - it makes me want to be more brave.

You are almost an exact twin of my husbands sister - same face shape, freckles, and of course the hair. I would love to see it down more. There is nothing better than a red-head with curly hair; thats why I married one. :)

The pants are great, and I can totally empathize with the brave breakup scenario. I've had a pretty similar experience after a 7 year relationship. It takes a lot of guts to end something like that, but when it's not right, it has to be done. Hugs to you!

Kudos for being brave on both fronts - the pants look great, and breaking up is a hard, hard thing to do.

Lurker here (seems like a lot of us are emerging!). Just wanted to tell you that I ADORE your Brave Friday very much. Good on you for the pants and, as my friend would say, for wearing your Big Girl pants and taking care of yourself.

That said, my boyfriend and I met online (match.com specifically), and just got engaged. It's really a fun process, and I had a lot of fun with the dating "tools" that online dating offered.

You've probably got 100+ people offering you sage advice, so suffice it to say, THE PANTS ROCK, and go get 'em TIGER!!!
