This past weekend we went to do Late Christmas with Nate's family in Marshall, MN. It was a lot of fun except for when the Vikings lost to the Packers... boo.  Here we are before the game, when our hopes were high!

Photo booth (61) and a weird day

Saturday night I worked the photo booth for a private holiday party at a fancy pants house on Lake Minnetonka. It was crazy. Valets, a palm reader, bartenders, waiters... The older I get, the more I appreciate the fact that I didn't grow up with money.

It's our first day of school following the tragedy in Newtown, CT. I've felt weird and sad since Friday. I don't really know what to say about it, other than it is my worst nightmare and I can't imagine what the parents, famililes, and community are going through. We've got extra social workers on hand in case any kids need to talk and we're reviewing our safety procedures to make sure we're doing everything imaginable to keep our students safe. And everyone gets an extra tight hug from me. I feel so lucky to work with children and get to see the world through their innocent eyes once in a while. I don't share too much about my job here (thanks HIPAA) but I will share this funny moment from last week...

A 6 year old boy was looking at my desk (which is covered in little drawings and gifts from students) and said, "Why does your desk say Christmas Time?" I said, "Where?" And he pointed to the nametag on the front of my desk that says "Christine." I said, "Oh, that's my nametag. It says ChrisTine," pointing to the letters as we sounded it out. He looked at me a bit puzzled and said "Is that short for Christmas Time?"

Clearly he's only got one thing on his mind...

Photo booth (60) and Americana

Saturday I worked a corporate Christmas party from 4:30pm-12:30am... it was long and pretty boring but I survived. And I was set up right next to a live band playing oldies for hours, so that sure kept me awake. Soo loud! And I was super jealous, all the employees of the company got iPads, $200, and an extra vacation day for Christmas. Working at a public school, I know we're getting exactly nothing (though sometimes I get cute cards from the kids or their parents, which is sweet).

Camp Monday

Sorry I was absent from the blog on Friday. I was taking my "CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer" certification class at the Red Cross. So I didn't go to work and wore my biggest, longest cardigan and my highest waisted pants, since I knew I'd be spending 6 hours crouched over a rubber torso on the floor and didn't want to have to worry about the possibility of having a plumber's crack showing. Glamorous. The classes are pretty boring, but it's something I have to do every two years. Though it is kinda funny, like when the instructor comes around with just a bag full of rubber faces that attach to the bodies and she says "Everyone take a face. And a child face. And a baby face." Um, what???? Disturbing.

Saturday, another photo booth...

Photo booth (59) and Hello, darkness

Saturday night... another wedding for the photo booth. And it was crazy warm out (like 70 degrees). So, I know I said "wedding season" was over, but somehow I'm working every Saturday this month except for Thanksgiving weekend. Eh, extra money is always good.

Nate started a new schedule for work today, so now he has to be there at 6am every day (he manages a group home for disabled adults and a new guy moved in who needs some extra assistance in the morning). So I'm going to try to get up at the same time as Nate and just do some yoga before work (I've always wanted to be one of those people who exercised in the morning instead of the afternoon). Today was the first day, and while it suuuuuuuucked getting out of the warm bed, it was nice once I did it. Plus I had extra time to get ready and even emptied the dishwasher too! We'll see how long this lasts before I quit and just sleep the extra hour and twenty minutes!

So many things

Saturday... worked a wedding for the photo booth.

I had an excellent weekend. My friend's brother was in town for the weekend so we had a big bonfire on Saturday (luckily I got done with the booth at 10pm). Sunday, we watched a ton of football and made fondue. I had the day off yesterday, which I spent making t-shirts and went to a few thrift stores.

I've gotta quick go vote after school then go pick up my mom from the bus station since she's in town this week to help my sister. I've mentioned before that my brother-in-law is a pilot and he was stuck in NYC all last week after the storm. He finally got home and now has to go do some international flights so my mom is visiting to help with Henrik so Kim doesn't feel like a single mom.

Here's day two and three of the 30 day Post-It Note challenge:

Day two, draw your fave animal! I don't really have a favorite animal. It's always changing. Giraffes. Seahorses. Whales. Right now I've been on the lookout at estate sales for a vintage mounted Marlin because they are awesome.

Day three, draw your fave food!

When the party was over we rushed home and changed because my friends Tim and Thom were having a Tweed Ride! We just biked around the city, stopping at pubs for beers. It was super fun!

Photo booth (56) and stripeys

Well I had a fabulous extra-long weekend! Meeting Nate's sick friend was fun but bittersweet. Seeing how he has to live every single day was eye-opening and made me even more grateful for my health and my life in general. On Saturday morning Nate and I and my friends Megan and Hilary took a bike-repair class. We're going every Saturday to learn how to take apart, fix, and put together bikes. I've ridden my bike forever and can fix a flat, but learning how to true a wheel and fix cables will be awesome! It was really fun!

Saturday night... worked the photo booth for a wedding. But it was my last Saturday shift of wedding season! I've got one more Friday night shift in October and then I probably won't really have to work weekends until April! Wooo!

Sunday, Nate and I went over to my sister Kim's house for brunch. Her husband is a pilot and has been doing a lot of over-seas flights so we went to go babysit for a while so she could run some errands without Henrik. We're determined to turn him into a Vikings fan, and apparently he enjoys Jared Allen's calf-roping move (or he just liked the fact that I was letting him smack the tv.)

Henrik, future Vikings fan

When we were done babysitting we went to go see my friend James in a play called "Art." It's about three friends coming to terms with issues in their friendship set off by the fact that one of them buys a $200,000 all-white painting. It was really interesting and good!

Nate and I went to a few thrift stores on Saturday before I had to work. It's Halloween season so all the good vintage and weird things are out! I found a bunch of great stuff. Nate has a cold so we spent all of Sunday watching football in our pajamas (awesome). Hopefully I don't catch it (working in the nurse's office of a school, I have a pretty kick-ass immune system... however this time of year, my allergies are so bad that I can get sick just because I'm so worn down already.)

Damn everything but the circus

Saturday I went to the MN blogger meet-up and then to work a wedding for the photo booth. I didn't want to have to change in between, so I just wore this dress to both:

Dress - Target GO International
Watch - thrifted vintage Camel
Bracelet - World Market

I brought a jacket for later Saturday evening, as the wedding was outdoors, under a tent. It was depression-era circus themed, and AWESOME.
100_0992

Sunday I went out for breakfast with my sister and my nephew Henrik. Then I watched football all day, followed by dinner with my friend Megan. It was yet another hectic weekend! I can't wait for wedding season to be over!

Today...
100_0995
Shirt - thrifted vintage aileen
Belt - thrifted
Jeans - Old Navy
Sandals - thrifted Candies

Confession, I want to wear this shirt every single day. I just love it (and the fact that it came with this skirt for a total of $6)... I won't ever wear them together though, I swear. That is just tooooooo many polka-dots for one lady.
