Axl N' Slash

I'll do two regular outfit posts tomorrow so I don't get behind because TODAY IS HALLOWEEN! My favorite! I'm not sure if Nate and I will dress up again tonight (cause we're old and both have to work tomorrow) but we did last weekend. On Friday our friends Mel and Jake were having a costume party. On Saturday we went to our favorite dive bar with a few friends. So here we go!

I've never done a couple's costume before but I figured that since we're newlyweds we should have a costume that allowed us to make-out all over town. And who doesn't want to see Axl Rose and Slash kissing?!?! When we were at the CC Club (dive bar) on Saturday, people even clinked their glasses a few times so we would kiss - it was pretty funny!

These were the easiest costumes ever too! Nate had to buy the wig and hat and we put on a few extra fake tattoos but everything else was just stuff we already owned!

Hmph

Yesterday... it was possibly going to snow (thank goodness it didn't!) I'm really having a hard time adjusting to the cold weather. Right now I have no interest in wearing skirts with tights and pretending I'm not freezing on the long trek to the bus stop (even though it's not even that cold yet!) Once I get bored of dressing warmly, I'll be all over dresses and skirts again, but for now - I just want warm comfy sweatshirts FOREVER. But if I wear a gold and rhinestone necklace and gold glitter ballet flats it kinda ups the fancy factor, yes?

It's Thriftmas time

Yesterday...
10-28-13 Thriftmas
Polo - from the golf club
Sweater - thrifted Isaac Mizrahi for Target
Watch - Billabong
Jeans - Gap
Wedges - nicole (inherited from friend)

I dressed pretty simple and comfy because Nate and I were volunteering at Arc's right after I was done with work. I changed into some moccasins and we spent a few hours going through their Merry Thriftmas stuff. Basically they set aside all their Christmas/Hanukkah/New Year's donations all year in these massive boxes, and we went through them and organized them into smaller categorized boxes so they can get put out in the stores next week. There were boxes for clothing, dishes, ornaments, stockings, Santas, stuffed animals and toys, candles, winter villages, books, movies, music, etc. There were like 30 categories! It was fun though! I did it last year too, but it was a lot more entertaining this year since Nate was there with me!

Cropped

Friday's get-up... I've had this sweater since I was probably 15? My dad got it for me in Ireland.

Another wedding photo from our photographer... I can't wait to see more pictures! It was freezing outside and the grass was soaked because it had just stopped pouring rain/hailing before we took these photos. Still, totally worth it!

Awkward squared

Yesterday was school picture day at work and I totally forgot until like 10 minutes before the bus came! I was (of course) wearing a shirt that had crazy shoulder doo-dads at the time. So I quick ran upstairs and changed! IDK if a western shirt was the right choice but whateves...

Speaking of school photos, Nate and I used our childhood portraits and school photos for our table numbers at the wedding. So table one had a photo of us both when we were one year old, table two at two years old, etc. Here are my two faves...

Nate has hockey hair and ONE GIANT TOOTH? I'm in! And of course I've got the requisite "50% of my head is bangs" look that was popular in 1987. (P.S. I would totally wear my outfit from the photo now if it fit.)

This was back when Nate used to get arrested for skateboarding all the time and he looks EXACTLY like Reese from Malcolm in the Middle... I was slowly transitioning out of my tomboyness but still refused to wear make-up.

There's plenty more awkward photos where these came from, so maybe one day I'll post some more of them. We both had some amazingly large glasses for a while too!

Odds and ends

Yesterday...
10-23-13 Odds and ends
Sweater - thrifted, DIY back by me
Polo - from the golf club
Pants - thrifted Banana Repubic (skinnified by me)
Shoes - Target

The all-important back...

The coat... I found this coat for $6 on our mini-honeymoon in New Ulm! It's fat corduroy and the inside is crazy soft faux fur. It feels like I'm wearing a stuffed animal! I also bought five pairs of vintage sunglasses (I have a problem), Nate found two tee shirts and three records, and we bought a cool antique chair too! They have a lot of cute antique and thrift shops!

We stayed at a bed & breakfast in New Ulm on Sunday. New Ulm is a German town, so our room had a jacuzzi surrounded by a mural of the Black Forest (and a fireplace!) Nate and I decided to embrace the cheesy-ness (there's fairies riding birds and some sort of a wizard? in that mural) and it was a lot of fun! I turned that gnome around to face the wall. He was creeeeping me out.

We also visited the Schell's Brewery in New Ulm. Here's me pretending like I'm not terrified of this peacock right behind my head. There's a bunch of them and they just wander all over the grounds of the brewery.

Team Olson

Sorry for the disappearing act but I had Thursday and Friday off work. Then Saturday, I GOT MARRIED. NBD.

That's the only "real" photo we have so far... the rest are crappy cell phone pics...

Or photobooth pics...

The fam...

And here's one from the rehearsal dinner with Nate and my sister (my maid of honor)...

Then Nate and I went out of town for a few days for a sort of mini-honeymoon (it's too hard to take time off during the school year so we'll do a "real" honeymoon later, well, maybe!) Then we moved all Nate's stuff into my place and opened all our cards and gifts. The highlight was this:

It's a seat from Target Field where the Twins play! We know one of the architects whose firm designed Target Field and he gave it to us as a wedding gift! We were beyond excited! Only a handful exist outside of the stadium and they're all labeled row 7, seat 33 (for Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau.) I'm looking forward to many years of fighting over who gets to sit in it while we watch Twins games.

I'll post more wedding photos and details in the coming weeks I'm sure. But it was a perfect day. I kept waiting for something to go wrong, and it never did! It rained/hailed when we were supposed to be taking pictures outside but it cleared up enough to take some outside later. Besides, the building was so cool, I didn't mind taking a bunch indoors!

Washed in black

Yesterday it was gloomy and drizzly and grey all day so I dressed to match?

Watch - Billabong
Skirt - vintage

Not much to report on this day. It was super slow at my regular job, then I waitressed all night, then I did a quick workout DVD, showered, and went to bed. Exciting stuff, my Tuesdays. I can't complain though, no news is good news, right?

Black & navy = BFFs

Man, oh, man. There's just something about navy and black paired together (especially with white and a bit of red). I'm a fan.

Navy and black together in general - so good. I'm glad it's no longer a fashion no-no. I tried not to include too many examples where the navy was just jeans, but well, dark wash jeans are navy. There's no denying it.

Love for sale

Friday was the last warm day, I fear. Getting dressed is so much easier when it's warm. Two things. Done.

After work on Friday, Nate picked me up and we went to visit my sister and my nephews (my bro-in-law was out of town because he's a pilot. So he's basically always out of town.) They just bought a new house so we went to go see it and attempt to wrangle the boys for a bit so my sister could do some more unpacking. It was crazy! Henrik is almost two and only has one speed: supersonic and directly toward the sharpest and most dangerous corner he can find. Peder is two months old and only has one volume: screaming at the top of his lungs. Buuuuut I hope we succeeded in tiring them both out enough that they slept in a bit the next day. Maybe?

Also, we're not above buying love, hence the old timey pedal car we brought for Henrik for an early birthday present:

Painting the apples red

Ahhh yes, time for the wearing of my mom's old painting shirt. I love it. I can't help it. Maybe it's the '80s child in me, but I'm always a sucker for paint splatter.

I took my special needs buddy Daniel to the apple orchard yesterday. We've gone every year for gosh, probably 6? 7? years now. I've worked with him for over 9 years and we have a few traditions - the arboretum in summer, the apple orchard in fall, the Hollidazzle Parade in winter. And year-round and constant games of Yahtzee and basketball. After all these years I've gotten to know his family super well too - in fact his dad is the one performing the marriage ceremony for Nate and I! He's the chaplain at a local children's hospital (and former pastor and theology professor).

I thought this apple sorter was so cool! And pretty - very industrial chic, no?
