Over the weekend Nate and I went out of town to Mankato, MN (about an hour and fifteen minutes away.) His friends Blake and Dee moved back from Vermont recently and are staying with his parents while they find jobs and somewhere to live in Minneapolis. It was Blake's 30th birthday so we went to visit. His parents bought an old farm house years ago and have been fixing it up and it was awesome! Seriously, so cool. Oh hey, tin ceiling and artist's studio (his dad is a painter/professor) of my dreams.

We also had one very out-of-control bonfire (see the old Christmas tree in there?) Ridiculously fun!

Weddings are my life

Friday night Nate and I hung out with a few friends. Our friends, Mel and Jake, are getting married this Saturday so we hung out with Mel for her final weekend "of freedom." It's a stupid expression, I know.

Speaking of stupid expressions, we apparently enjoy making stupid faces in all our photos... or at least I do.

Then on Saturday night, another wedding for the photo booth... this one was fun because I ran into one of my favorite members from the golf club where I worked for nine years! He's in his 80s and I didn't think I'd ever see him again! He immediately recognized me and came over to talk to me and gave me a hug. His family didn't know he already knew me and was watching him talk to me. They came over later and were like, "We were watching grandpa and thought, 'Wow, he's really chatting up the photo booth girl!'  and then he hugged you and we were like, 'Wow, now he's getting handsy with the photo booth girl.'" It was really neat to see him again!

I also made some pickles because the garden is full of waaaaaaaaay too many cucumbers...

And a bunch of the tiny tomatoes are finally getting ripe...

Otherwise, I spent most of the weekend balls-deep in the Olympics. I get mildly obsessed with them every time.

pins and needles

Thursday:
Blazer - thrifted
Pins - all thrifted/garage sales
T-shirt - Target
Shorts - Isaac Mizrahi for Target SAMPLE
Tights - Target
Shoes - thrifted Sasha Too

I think a big bunch of tiny pins is so cute! So here's some pin porn:

Seven of the twelve pins are from old boy/girl/cub scout uniforms, and I still have a few more that are still on some uniform pieces that I wear.

Today. This outfit makes me feel like a child. In the seventies.

Gearing up for one of the busiest weekends of my life followed by one of the busiest weeks of my life followed by destination wedding cruise! My friend Megan flew in from San Francisco this morning. Friday - Dinner, bachelorette party! Saturday - brunch, Hilary's birthday festivities, Halloween party! Sunday - Vikings vs. Packers! All fun but exhausting too! The good news is my costume is finished (already wore it to a party on Wednesday) and I only have the crown left to finish for the Max (from Where the Wild Things Are) costume for my friend James. Have a fabulous Halloween and I'll be back with 1,000,000 pictures on Monday!

Suddenly totally obsessed with girl scout uniforms (in addition to the usual obsession over boy scouts)

Yesterday:
Jacket - thrifted, vintage. It think it once came with a dress
T-shirt - Target
Skirt - thrifted (note the awesome fringe at the bottom that flings around when I walk - so fun!)
Boots - Charles by Charles David

Today I feel like Shelley Long in Troop Beverly Hills, where she chic-ifies all her Girl Scout uniforms into "cocktail frocks."
 Hat/fascinator - thrifted
Shirt - thrifted in Halloween costume section
Pants - Target
Shoes - next

Nothing exciting to report. Stayed home last night and sewed/cleaned. I think I've mentioned that I'm making a Max, from Where the Wild Things Are costume for a friend. My whole house is COVERED in fur. Everywhere I go, every time I sit down, just full of hair. Cutting faux fur is bad, bad news. Fortunately it is turning out rather awesome... "so at least I've got that going for me." (Bill Murray reference anyone?) I also finally started on my Maude Lebowski from the hallucination scene costume (you know, where she's like a viking with boobs made from bowling balls). I nearly cut all my fingers off several times last night trying to saw plastic toy bowling balls in half with a huge serrated knife - oopsy doops? Digits still intact. Score!

I wore this on Friday to see a friend's band at a new bar in town... SINGLE LADIES - here is my recommendation to you - GO FIND A VINTAGE BOYSCOUT SHIRT. I've never been hit on so much in my life and I was there with my boyfriend and four other guys. I think it's just because it gave them an "in" - you know, "Oh, I used to be a boy scout. It looked just like that, etc. Where did you get it? etc."

So, it is my birthday on Wednesday, I will be 28. I'm bartending in the morning (hoping I make some extra tips?) and then doing a BBQ, watch the Twins, drink Mojitos and sit on the porch party. I usually do my birthday stuff on a weekend but I just want a low key thing with just 15-20 friends not a crazy party full of friends of friends and feeling like I have to run around and be the hostess.

Last year a bunch of the boys grew beards all August and then shaved them down into creative mustaches on my birthday (I also had fake mustaches for the ladies and for the fellas whose jobs prevent them from growing crazy mustaches)... I don't know how it all started but my Augustache party was fun but just too much work and too many people!

So have a lovely week all, I'll try to post about the birthday shenanigans on Friday!
