quilted jean jacket (a really cop-out DIY)

Sorry for the absence yesterday... I was busy sleeping 14 hours straight, then I was awake for about 2 hours, at which point I fell asleep again... I felt kinda half-sick on Saturday and Sunday, where my glands were really swollen and I had a sore throat... I decided that if I didn't just sleep and sweat all day on Monday, I would go from half-sick to full blown sick, so I stayed home from work and slept. All. Day. Long. It would be kind of gross how much I slept, but apparently it worked because I feel awesome today (save for a really stiff neck, probably from the marathon sleep session). Anyhoodle, I have the world's most cop-out DIY for you, so let's get right to the outfit:

Jean jacket - originally from Target, DIY

T-shirt - Target

Jeans - Built by Wendy sample sale

Shoes - thrifted Santorini

Somehow I have like four jean jackets, so I decided to spruce this one up.. like three years ago I found a quilted embroidery hoop at the thrift store and bought it for 80 cents... it's been sitting with some sewing stuff ever since... I cut a hole in a jean jacket, slightly smaller than the embroidery hoop

removed the quilt from the embroidery hoop and machine sewed it in

then used some burnt orange embroidery floss to add a little detail around the quilting to finish it off

I could totally see doing this with doilies, embroidered samplers, or even just another piece of fabric... not that I need to start having an arsenal of customized jean jackets or anything, so I think I'll just leave it at this one.

PLUS! It reminds me of Jay McCarroll's final show from the first season of Project Runway (why oh why can't I find a picture of his awesome burgundy quilted coat?!?), even though Michael Kors called it "too DTM" (dyed to match), I was in LOVE with it... I even wore a different homage outfit in October 2008...
