Kooky ladies

I found this crazy novelty print skirt at a thrift store like two months ago but didn't want to wear it until I could rock it with bare legs. I just feel like it's so insane on it's own, I didn't want to complicate it further by wearing it with tights.

These two ladies are my faves, cause they look like mean bitches. So I made them fight like they're from 1992 not 1952...

It's Monday (boo!) but it's supposed to be 70 degrees today (hooray!) It was a super nice weekend, weather wise. I worked from 8am to 1am on Friday, so I didn't get to see Nate on our anniversary. I felt super bad! But Saturday Nate and I went to repair my bike tire, saw Henrik for a bit, played a few yard games, went to dinner with some friends, and then had a bonfire in the yard. Sunday I had to get up early and work brunch from 9am to 4pm, then we went out for sushi and frozen yogurt.

Two years

Ahh! It's been two years since my first date with Nate. Aaaaand of course there's a huge event happening at the country club so I couldn't get tonight off. Eh, no biggie, we're not exactly romantics anyway. We're going out to dinner with some friends tomorrow night, so I guess we can count that as our anniversary celebration. And tomorrow morning we're gonna true my bike wheel! Woooooo! The couple that repairs bikes together, stays together. Or something.

Pseudo suit

I'm a big fan of the pseudo-suit. I don't actually own a suit, but tossing on a blazer that matches your pants is practically the same thing, yes?

Necklace detail... I figure if I'm gonna wear an old thrift store shirt from high school, I may as well class it up a bit with a pile of rhinestones... I wore a million old little boys t-shirts in high school and college and I can never bring myself to get rid of them. Vintage tee, skirt, sandals - that was my uniform from '97-'02. In high school, my friends and I would take the train down to Chicago to go thrifting and come back with bags and bags of stuff for like $20. Amazing. I still have a few funny vintage coats from that era too. Ah, youth. It's annoying to know there were probably amazing vintage dresses hanging there for like a $1 but I was too much of a tomboy so I spent all my time trying to find ironic t-shirts. Sigh. Live and learn.

A whale of a tale

Sorry for the unplanned absence. I'm one of those people who really proves the "An object in motion, stays in motion" thing. The busier I am, the more I take on. If I let myself sit down, it's hard to get going again, so I just never stop moving!

So I've been waitressing 4-5 times per week, in addition to my regular day job, my special needs buddy, and keeping up with etsy orders. When I get home from waitressing (after a 14 hour day), I figure, I have to shower anyway, so I may as well exercise first. And after a few weeks, I burned myself out. My immune system is a goddamn bear trap from constantly being exposed to kiddie germs, but my allergies? A whole 'nother story, they've been terrible my whole life. Maybe I shouldn't spend hours digging around in gross basements at estate sales when I'm allergic to mold and haven't slept more than 5 hours at a time in days. Oops. Regardless, I'm A-OK now! And I promise to sit down once in a while. I even have a whole Saturday off this week!

Oooh! Whales in love! I found this sweater while thrifting with my friend Megan on Saturday. I was so excited when I found it. I've got a soft spot for whales; my parents started dating when my mom was a waitress at a bar called The Thirsty Whale and my dad used to come in to hit on her. Cuuuute!

Also, new vintage springy stuff in the etsy:

My reddest sweater

Today is the Day of Silence for high school students who choose to participate. The GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) at my school said any staff who want to show their support can wear red today. I'm so insanely proud to work at my school. I feel like we are such a progressive, loving, and nurturing school for everyone. There are people in my building (be they students, staff, or parents) who are gay, straight, and transgendered. We don't care. We want you here and to be yourself! It's awesome!

Breton swan

Yesterday Nate came over and I made pizza from scratch and we caught up on a bunch of tv shows. I've been too busy waitressing to watch anything lately! And with the return of waitressing, comes the return of waitressing nightmares. I haven't had any in a few years but now they're back.

Honestly, it's stupid. Do I have nightmares about my real job where kids crack their heads open or have severe allergic reactions or staff members have heart attacks? No. I have nightmares about having too many tables and they're speaking a jibberish language I don't understand. Lives on the line vs. dinner on the line. So silly.

Blue skies

I've said it before and I'll say it again... I love this shirt. Elly May Clampett-esque or not. I'm also pretending that it's not supposed to snow again and wearing sandals today. One of the advantages of access to the skyways - it's always sandal weather in the skyways! I waitressed last night after work, so I've got nothing exciting to report. I flushed some water lines in preparation for the outside deck bar to open. Woo! And ate a cheeseburger. Woo again!

World-weary

I'm avoiding the world today... it's MCA testing (those lovely standardized tests every state has) for all of the school except KG, 1st, and 2nd grade, so I'm reading Kurt Vonnegut short stories and avoiding looking at the news all day. If ignorance is bliss, then count me in. Just for today.

Ah yes, a lovely spring baseball game... no, really it was 32 degrees and snowed about half the game. Plus the Twins got their ass kicked. It was still fun though, I swear!

We figured as long as there was snow, we'd take the opportunity to strike out Rod Carew with a snowball...

Otherwise, we had a pretty lazy weekend, which was just what I needed. My friend Megan made us gumbo for dinner on Saturday and on Sunday we rented Argo and refused to move from the couch. It was awesome.

Snowball

Whelp, looks like I'm going to the world's coldest baseball game tonight... actually, I'm excited! It's our first game of the year and it carries on Nate and my tradition of shitty Twins games... for our first date, we were supposed to meet up and watch the Twins on TV at a local bar. The game was rained out so we just hung out and talked instead. Our first game that we went to together at the stadium, the tornado sirens went off and it hailed like crazy so there was a loooooong rain delay in the game. We're unlucky with the Twins, I guess.

Like the old adage says, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life gives you 7 inches of snow on April 11, make a T-Rex." Nate and I went and saw Jurassic Park in IMAX 3D on Sunday, so maybe that's why he made a dinosaur? IDK... He's a strange one, this boyfriend of mine.

Like a chubby little Barbie

ETA: Thanks to reader Rebs for pointing out my title... I didn't intend to call myself chubby, FYI. It's more about the insane proportions of a Barbie, being the tallest, thinnest woman ever with the world's largest rack... carry on!

I don't even know who I am anymore... how am I wearing both hot pink and lavender? I guess this snowstorm is making me attempt to dress springy in any way I can (under my beanie, wool coat, and boots of course.) Yes, we're getting a shit-ton of snow and it is thundering and lightning while it does it - which is creepy and unnatural and clearly MN has angered someone or something.
