dayglo and breaking the rules

Hey kiddos! Still alive, still crazy busy, still having too much fun!

So yesterday I dressed like a highlighter... I'm trying to decide whether I should keep this 60s dayglo nightie or not, so I wore it over to the boy's house for a porch cocktail and some late night people watching. I got quite a few stares when I went next door to the gas station... I think I'll hold on to it for now, I've never seen another one like it and I go thrifting a LOT.

Dayglo nightie - thrifted
Leggings - I Heart Ronson
Shoes - Pierre Hardy for GAP

Today

Ryan (boyfriend) - Your outfit doesn't make sense.
Me - Only when you know the rules, can you break the rules.
Ryan - What are the rules?
Me - Do you REALLY want me to start talking about the rules?
Ryan - No, Carrie Bradshaw.
Me - (devil stare)

Shirt - JC Penny super clearance (yeah, I got distracted buying new work bras the other day...)
Skirt - thrifted
Shoes - thrifted Nine West

Whoo! Newly fixed vintage shoes, fresh from the cobbler with new heels!

I got new taps for two other pairs of heels, but these were the tough ones for them and they turned out fabulous! $3 thrifted Nine West shoes from Brazil, $29 in repairs... hmm... still totally worth it!

That is all for today kids, 7 hours on my feet at work, ran 5 miles, now I'm off to make dinner with the boy and watch the Twins games... ahhhh

what I wore all weekend

Last Wednesday... oopsy doops... Spent most of the day in and out of etsy stuff for the shop, but here is what I wore to have a cocktail with a friend in town from Boston...

Ruffled shirt - thrifted and pinned with a brooch in the back
Grey tank - little boys Fruit of the Loom
Green tank - Target
Skirt - thrifted Ann Taylor LOFT - all the white parts are embroidery, I'll shoot a close up later, it's so pretty!
Shoes - Chinese Laundry

Thursday I was out driving around the beverage cart all day and forgot to put on sunscreen until I was already out there two hours, and thus I am rocking a fine "farmer burn" in this pic. I wore this after work, hanging out with my disabled client and then to a local hip-hop show to see a friend in town from Boston. I also wore it for a few hours after work on Saturday night...

Necklaces - thrifted
Vest - thrifted in the little boys costume section around halloween
Dress - thrifted Nine West
Shoes - thrifted vintage Candies

Have more to post tomorrow, since I finally have a whole day off! I'm super busy so far this summer, but rolling in dough and stress-free... I'm hoping to work a little less in the upcoming weeks but I doubt that will happen. Oh well, still having a ball!

Ketchup

What I wore to the wine party on Friday

Cardigan - J. Crew like 10 years ago
Polo - Target
Shoes - Unisa
Skirt - made from a pair of men's underwear I got at a garage sale for $0.25

What? Oh yes, I found some awesome vintage boxers at a garage sale and bought them from a rather embarrassed looking chubby old man... I couldn't help myself. I loved the patterns and the waistbands were so cool, plus they were still brand new in the package! So after removing the butt panel from the back, I just sewed up the back and the fly, removed the legs/crotch region and boom - cutest, cheapest, easiest little skirts ever.

A close up of the one from the above outfit (isn't the waist detail the cutest thing ever?)

The one I fixed up today (my total fave)...

Lookie that cool crest pattern!

The one pair I haven't finished yet...

I will try to post again soon, but it's another crazy working 50 hours week and my friend Megan is in town from Boston, so no promises. In the meantime, I will be wearing a lot of my uniform, a lot of swim suits, and a few old lady slips/nightgowns over them.

In fact this slip/nightgown thing is from the same garage sale as the boxers... hmm, is it suspicious that I was buying all their unmentionables??

Dress - $0.25 at a garage sale, I had to suck a few sizes out of it and it's still too big but I like it and it's semi-sheerness so you can see my swim suit under it
Swim suit - top Victoria's Secret, bottom Target
Shoes - thrifted vintage

And just to prove I'm not in the business of buying old people's underwear exclusively, I also bought two dresses, two pairs of shoes, some vintage hankies and this bag for $1 each!

I'm being killed with FUN (erm, and work)

Just a short one to prove to you I'm alive... had a fabulous weekend...
Thursday - bartending, picked up my client, then Jeanette's birthday
Friday - waitress then running then a wine party
Saturday - I slept in and had a leisurely lunch outside before waitressing a wedding until midnight
Sunday - I had a BBQ and pool party at my house in the morning followed by all of us heading to the park for an awesome baseball game (even though my team lost... boo) followed by pizza and a movie
Monday - drove the bev cart for 6 hours, (made lots of money -yay, got a farmer tan - boo), then ran 5 miles, then made taco salad with the boy
Today - waitress 8 hours, then hopefully just sit and sew and finally have some time to myself.

Don't get me wrong, this has been such a FUN week, but just so hectic... plus my friend Megan is coming in from Boston tomorrow, so I don't think this week will be any less crazy/fun... I have a few pictures for you that I'll post tomorrow, in the meantime just to prove I am a alive, here are some pictures from Jeanette's birthday that I stole off her flickr!

The troubles with transititions

Still getting caught up from the deathly illness, but THANK YOU so much for your kind words and concerns! Really! It means so much!

Quickie now, since tomorrow I won't have a moment to sit down let alone blog or take a photo. I spent the first half of the day in my glamorous bartending frock, then in workout clothes (ran FIVE miles today, whoo-hoo!), and finally in this to go watch a little baseball and pass out to do it all over again tomorrow. Well bartending, then directly to working with my special needs client, then directly to see the lovely Jeanette enter her final year of her 20s!

Pearls - thrifted
Shirt - thrifted
Watch - Michael Kors
Jeans - thrifted Banana Republic
Shoes - thrifted Deegow Boutique

Oh yes, check out the new watch!

And finished the other half of my 20 custom onesies order...

Whew! I have Friday off, which I plan on spending catching up on all your lovely blogs! I may be sporadic this summer in posting and commenting, I just have odd hours and still too many jobs and hobbies... and I may take a month long night class in July (just to make myself extra super crazy!) Lovez you all!

Knocking on Heaven's Door

Ok, I'm a bit scatter-brained today, so I will divide it up so it makes sense...

#1 I got super duper sick over the weekend. On Saturday I had a weird rumbly stomach all day and went to waitress a wedding. Around 10pm I threw up five times and felt 100% better. My boss said I could stay or go, depending on what I wanted to do. I felt bad leaving so I stayed and worked about a half hour more... puked five more times. So I left and raced the pukey feeling home and luckily just made it inside and to the toilet before I puked five more times. Repeat until 4:30 am, with a fever and unable to keep any water let alone any ibuprofen down. Sunday was spent in bed, watching movies and baseball and in and out of consciousness. Sunday night I finally got up the nerve to eat some plain brown rice and it stayed down. I'm feeling fine today, but DANG, I haven't been that sick in like ten years. Also, during this time, I lost SEVEN POUNDS, which I'm sure I'll gain back once I am not so dehydrated and crappy.

#2 Luckily I had Sunday, Monday, and today off from the golf club. But I have to work the rest of the week so today is psycho-do-things day since my other days off were wasted in bed. So I must sew, update my etsy, buy nude bras for stupid white uniform shirt at the golf club, get my new watch re-sized and new batteries put in an old one, go drop off three pairs of shoes at the shoe repair shop, finish the other half of this custom order of onesies...

and I'm sure like 10 more things will come up. Also, I woke up to Lithium by Nirvana on the radio today, so I'm feeling like having a '90s day today. So while doing all these chores I'll be rocking out to the Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, No Doubt and Blind Melon, etc and while at home doing chores I'll be watching Reality Bites and Empire Records. Gosh I love the '90s...

#3 Today's outfit (hmm, maybe I should have tried to dress more 1990s)
Dress - Romeo and Juliet Couture (from crazy $2 outlet store)
Leggings - TJ Maxx
Shoes - Charles David

Hope your weekend was better than mine and I'll try to resume posting more regularly now that I work less hours!

Schooool's Out for Summer!

Sorry to get all Alice Cooper on you there, but heck yes, it is the last day of school! I LOOOOVE this job, but I'm so ready for my stress-free summertime. I'll be running my butt off all day, tracking down 50+ kids to send their meds and inhalers and epi-pens and nebs and insulin and whatever home with them for the summer! So, I better go do that rather than blog at work...

Today: Oh yes, you better click to see that picture better... look at that fab pearl collar that I won on eBay for only $10!

Bye kids, have an excellent day all of you! Here's hoping I don't cry today (some of the kids are moving or going to a different school next year... I have trouble with goodbyes.... Don't we all?)

watching watches, all day

So many of the kids in my school are going on field trips this week... I'm just sitting around all day, doing nothing. Well, actually I'm reading fashion blogs, finishing the last few pages of The World According to Garp, and searching for the perfect watch. I don't know why I've been focused on watches lately, I just really don't like taking out my cell phone to know the time and I have NO internal clock or concept of time. All my friends make fun of me because I love old clocks and have about 6 of them (in my tiny 4 room condo) and they tick-tick-tick super loudly. I don't notice it, but they do. I have a few watches, most of which I need to get new batteries for. I think I've got it though... I almost ordered this one

but it's a little too... ghetto? diva? baby phat? sorry Michael Kors, it's just a little too MUCH for me.

I think this one is THE one. It's glorious and big and not as expensive as the other one but still nothing to sneeze at and the color is called bone which I enjoy for some reason...
I can justify it to myself because the way I get paid at work is stretched out over 10 months of the year, so even though my last day is Friday, I'll still get two more paychecks. During that time I'll be working at the golf club and getting paid from there too, so it's like double money for a month! Whoo! Expensive watch, here I come!

Here is my outfit today (one of the 4th grade teachers told me I looked like Lucille Ball today and I almost kissed her!)

I don't know if you can tell but the dress has tiny lavender polka dots and lavender piping!
Necklace - thrifted
Dress - thrifted (Express)
Shoes - Unlisted by Kennith Cole

I've got the summer itch!!!

My sale on Saturday was, um, good, not great. Which is fine, I didn't put too much effort into advertising and I sold enough stuff to make it worth hauling all the stuff to the garage. The highlight was when Sal stopped by with Husband Mike. Very fun to finally meet her! She is absolutely lovely, in every way.

Saturday night I went to see Gogol Bordello outdoors at The Cabooze. It was insane. It was fun. It was insanely fun. They play an amazing live show and played for close to two hours! I was jumping and dancing and jumping and well jumping and having a ball. Sunday morning I woke up with one very knotted left calf muscle... am I getting too old for this? Regardless, totally worth it. Plus it gave me an excuse to sit around all day on Sunday, watching baseball and NOT dealing with the mess from the garage sale.

Monday: wore my favorite skirt ever

Jean jacket - thrifted, bleached by me
T-shirt - Target
Skirt - thrifted
Sandals - Steve Madden

Tuesday: I was pretty thrilled when I thrifted this chambray dress at Arc's Value Village on 50% off day!

Ribbon in hair - was wrapped around a gift from my sister, years ago
Red necklace - thrifted
Dress - thrifted
Yellow necklace (worn as bracelet) - thrifted
Shoes - Chinese Laundry

Gaa! Only three more days of work and then I'm free to enjoy the relaxed schedule and freedom of being a waitress/bartender/bev cart girl for three months! I don't know how anyone could work anywhere but a school, I couldn't handle having the same job year-round. I love my carefree summers...
